Do you require FSX Acceleration pack to improve FSX gold

Featured Replies

YIKES... you mean that there were "earlier" boxed DVD versions of FSX Gold that didn't come with all Acceleration and associated SP2 SDK updates in the package, and that there are later boxed versions of FSX Gold which are different (read: 'more current') than those "earlier" DVD boxed versions of FSX Gold ?

For those buying FSX Gold to get the SP2 SDK at recent "scalper's prices" via online vendors... BEWARE !

Make sure that the downloadable FSX SP2 definitely does update the FSX Gold SDK installation to the latest SP2 version as well as the general FSX simulator application itself.

UPDATED to correct for misinterpretation of information asserted in this thread.

BTW: AFAIK FSX Acceleration includes much more add-on content beyond what is in the downloadable FSX SP2,  and IMHO should not be referred to as "the payware version of SP2", since this might mislead some into thinking they will get FSX Acceleration's additional add-on content by simply downloading and installing SP2. :Nerd:

Its true, though, that FSX Acceleration does include on the DVD, separate folders from which the "FSX Acceleration-specific SP1 and SP2" upgrade is automatically installed ...after installing FSX Acceleration itself.

"Acceleration includes SP2 bits, and SP1 and thus does not require SP1 to be pre-installed as there is room on the DVD for it, but the downloadable SP2 does require FSX-SP1 to be installed"

After installation of the FSX Acceleration-specific SP2 upgrade on existing installations of FSX Acceleration the end result is (...according to ACES' Phil Taylor) the "same" mix of updated SP2 files.

The downloadable SP2 was intended to only be used on FSX Standard or Deluxe editions which had the SP1 updates already applied, and was NOT to be installed if FSX Acceleration had also already been installed. :excl2:

In the case of the SDK and its own updated 'service packs', this was always a separate installation procedure for FSX Standard or Deluxe editions, and also for FSX Acceleration.

Hope this helps !
