I noticed that there is a "push" operation in the speed dial in the MCP. Does it have another function other than displaying the speed when it is not displayed while on VNAV?

You can find every button and switch in the FCOM  (pg 4.10.6), and be sure you have flown the Tutorial #1 flight at least.  If you need help with speed intervention I think the tutorial will help.
