FS2004 and Linux

Featured Replies

Hi!Have any of you tried running FS2004 under Linux? If so, how does it function?Thank you.

FS2004 was written to run under the Windows O/S. Any attempt to get it to run under Linux in one of the emulators is going to hobble it so severely as to make it a waste of time. There's quite a few discussions over the years on this--search the forums for "Linux" and you'll get more knowledge than I certainly have.-John

Yes, I have tried using both WINE and TransGaming. Never got it to work. As JohnCi said, search for that in the forum, you'll find more info about what happened. To sum up, it didn't work when I tried it (and trust me I really tried) and I haven't heard that anything has changed.

>Hi!>>Have any of you tried running FS2004 under Linux? If so, how>does it function?>>Thank you.Why would you want to? If you're spending the money on hardware capable of running FS9 well, then why would you skimp and try to cluge it together with Linux?

"Why would you want to? If you're spending the money on hardware capable of running FS9 well, then why would you skimp and try to cluge it together with Linux?"Same reason why people run MSFS on laptops and I run MSFS on an old P3/800. Many like to run MSFS on the same platform they work on or perform other hobby activity. It's a fair question to ask. And, some may wonder whether Linux has less overhead than Windows and be unaware of how closely MSFS is tied to the O/S.-John

Some of us (me) like to play with multiple OS. I used to have Mandrake Linux dual boot on my game machine. So, when I would boot into Linux, it would have been nice to be able to play my games. As a matter of fact, until XP x64 came out, if I could have gotten MSFS running under Linux, Madrake Linux probably would have been my default OS.

Thank you for your replies. Looks like I'll take a rain-check trying. :)Have a great weekend.

Ken, what movie is that quote from? (in your sig)

My wife bought me that movie for Christmas, I hadn't seen it in many years and I almost died laughing! Great comedy. "That's just what they would expect us to do" was the punch-line for me :)Bruce.
