February 24, 201511 yr I finally decided to go ahead with purchasing the 777 today, I managed to get the bird off the ground just flying around above Belgium as I really wanted to see how it performs fps wise. FPS has been quite ok actually, tbh better than expected as I was very concerned that frame rates would be so bad that I would end up having wasted my money which I definitely did on airliners in FSX, I'm not opening the champagne just yet but so far so good. The problem that I'm having so far though is not really stutter or low FPS but actual freezes, P3D just freezes for 2-3 seconds all together and then just kicks in again, I don't have to do anything for this to happen, even statically sitting on the flightdeck does it or any other view for that matter. It literally seems like I'm pausing the sim there, very annoying. Is this maybe due to loading terrain, I fly the A2A 172 mainly rather than airliners so I guess I don't cover quite as much ground rapidly but I'm not quite sure what is going on, I can probably mess around with sliders but I thought I'd ask here first anyway in case there is a clear cut reason for this type of behaviour. Thank you Stefaan de Keersmaeker
February 24, 201511 yr I had this problem also but figured out FSUIPC auto-save was causing it. I turned that off and the 1 second freezing was completely gone.
February 24, 201511 yr Same problem here, and happens when I click to change views and enlarge PFD, CDU, either. If I didn[t do anything it freezes more or less each 8-10 nm As you said...extremely annoying LuizCarlos Caeiro de Almeida LUIZ CARLOS CAEIRO DE ALMEIDA
February 24, 201511 yr Author I'll check my FSUIPC auto save and report back, hopefully it's that as I definitely have that turned on which will make it an easy fix at least. It doesn't seem to have this impact on other aircraft though, in my case the A2A 172 which is the only one I fly really but that one never pauses. How do you handle getting back to your in progress flight though when hitting an OOM without the auto save because I even get those on the 172 when flying across urban areas despite having OK fps but that's another point of frustration, I guess I could auto save less frequently assuming the pause happens when it actually saves. To be continued...
February 25, 201511 yr Author I can confirm that FSUIPC autosave is the culprit here, it doesn't like the 777, every time it saves it pauses so I think I might still keep it but leave it to 3600 seconds for this bird, I can handle a pause once an hour if it saves my flight until I look into all this panel save features from pmdg, not sure what is possible there. Thx for the tip as I wouldn't have gone looking there for this problem. Stefaan de Keersmaeker
February 25, 201511 yr Panel saves only save the state of all your systems as they are at that moment in time. It does not save the actual flight in flight sim. When you save (or auto save) in flight sim and reload that save, the panel will go back to the state it was in when you saved, after initialising. Cheers, Chris Brand
February 25, 201511 yr Author Ok so based on that I should be ok to save a flight manually every so often and reload it without the need for the panel save feature and be able to start from wherever I left off with the ability to continue on my flight with flight plan data etc? I always found the save feature to be somewhat clunky as I would save a flight in the A2A 172 for example and upon reloading finding myself with all my systems powered down while in midair, I just don't trust the save flight feature I guess. So why/when would you use a save panel feature? Thx Stefaan de Keersmaeker
February 25, 201511 yr I use the save function if I've started a long haul too late at night or I need to go out etc so I can come back to it without having to start again. If you pause and save the paused situation, it will load paused so no unexpected surprises. While the 777 initialises there is a loss of systems etc so the plane kind of glides along and will lose around 500ft but once initialising is complete, the LNAV/VNAV will correct that. I think panel state is more for when you start a new flight you can pick how you want the aircraft systems configured. Cheers, Chris Brand
