EditVoicePack question

Featured Replies

Hi,I have been using EditVoicepack by Lars Mollebjerg to edit and add airport ICAO's and callsigns. It's an excellent program.I've posted this question on several boards but have not had any replies. I thought I'd post here to see if anyone on this forum could offer some suggestions.I am confused about the the programs ability to create new ATC phraseology. The user's guide offers an excellent tutorial on creating callsigns but is somewhat vague on how to create new phraseology. I'm not sure what data to enter in the phraseology dialog. I Type a "<" (without the quotes) in the filter to see samples of the markers in the default Flight Simulator voicepack. But, where and how do I insert the markers? I've tried many times to figure it out but to no avail:-( I would greatly appreciate any help or suggestions regarding my problem. Thanks.Tom :-)

>Have you tried asking at the dedicated forum at>http://www.flightsimmer.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=56Hi,Bill, thanks for your reply. Yes, I have tried that forum - several times - with no response. In fact, it was the first forum I tried about a month ago. It might be that I'm not posting in the proper location. I can give it another go.Thanks again,Tom :-)

Be aware that you can substitute an existing phrase with one that you are more familiar or comfortable with, but you cannot add a phrase that isn't already coded into the FS9 ATC engine!

HI,Thanks, Bill, for your response. I am aware of this restriction in the FS9 ATC engine. My problem is that I can't figure out what information is entered into the Phraseology dialog. When creating a callsign I enter the following info in the Callsign dialog: - Identifier (in caps) - Description - Phrase - Phrase filter textI then adjust the sound segments until I get what I want to hear. The Callsign tutorial states the identifier should match the word I want ATC to say. Do I enter the same data into the Phraseology dialog? The Phraseology user guide states to right click the wave files display in the markers section to insert a marker into the wave file. Then, select the marker by clicking it to assign the name to it. This part I don't understand - when I do this nothing happens. I'm missing something.:-hmmm I greatly appreciate your help and patience.Tom :-)

Just made my own callsign. What you have written in the Phrase box is what the ATC will use in their text dialogue, the Identifier is what's written in the callsign selection pulldown ingame. Description and Author I just put whatever.Once I had the sound right in the Markers box, I right clicked on the voice I used and went to Copy Sound Segments To / All. Then I saved and went to Tools / Update Airlines.cfg.And that's all I did and it works as advertised. Not sure if it's in the right format to upload, but I didn't care. As far as the Markers box, nothing I've done so far can 'un-grey' the naming box and nothing else I've done makes clicking on it do anything. /shrug

Hi,Thanks, enzoblue, for your informative reply. It clears up some confusion I had regarding callsigns. My problem, now, is the Phraseology section. I'm not sure what to enter into the dialog. I can't figure out how to match up the change in phraseology to the correct callsign so ATC knows where the phrase belongs. This is what I've been entering into the phraseology section: - Identifier (same as callsign) - phrase in the phrase box ("request landing for fuel") - I enter a "<" (without the quotes) to see what phrases are available. - I enter "request" in the phrase filter and add that to the sound segment which also shows up in the markers box. - Then I enter parts of other phrases until I get the phrase I want ATC to say. This is where I get confused. The instructions in the user guide are vague at this point. It says: "You insert the positions in the phrase by enclosing a "keyword" in <> brackets." Not sure what is meant by keyword. The guide goes on to say: "Right click the the wave file display in the markers section to insert a marker in the wave file." "Select the marker by clicking it to assign the name to it." Not sure what this means either. I've tried everything I can come up with but nothing works. I cannot "un-grey" the naming box either. :-( I really appreciate your help and patience. Any suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks again.Tom :-)

Hmm, I have not noticed any question on the support forum, but yes - one or two probably slips by now and then without I notice it.>My problem, now, is the Phraseology section. I'm not sure what>to enter into the dialog. I can't >figure out how to match up the change in phraseology to the>correct callsign so ATC knows where the phrase belongs.Callsigns do not really have anything to do with this - except you can include the callsign in the phrase. Callsigns are only used for naming airlines (so Scandinavian, Air Force, United atc).>>This is what I've been entering into the phraseology section:>> - Identifier (same as callsign)The identifier must match one of the existing identifiers used in Flight Simulator - something like for example AC_AGNT_CANCEL_IFR - you can NOT add a new identifier and get FS to use it when you would like. It's only for callsigns it must match the callsign. :)> - phrase in the phrase box ("request landing for fuel")Fuel emergencies are not supported in FS, hence FS would never know when to request it. You can add it as a variation to the normal landing request, and then a certain percentage of the planes would have fuel problems :)> - I enter a "<" (without the quotes) to see what phrases are > > available.> - I enter "request" in the phrase filter and add that to > the sound segment which also shows up in the markers box.> - Then I enter parts of other phrases until I get the phrase> I want ATC to say. This is where I get confused. The>instructions > in the user guide are vague at this point. It says: "You>insert> the positions in the phrase by enclosing a "keyword" in <>> brackets." Not sure what is meant by keyword. If you want ATC to say for example a callsign in a communication it needs to know where to put it. For example AC_AGNT_REQUEST_DESCND_8000 contains the default phrase: , . Request . Here "agent", "callsign_shortened", and "altitude_request" are keywords. They will be replaced with the appropriate text when the message is displayed.>> The guide goes on to say: "Right click the the wave file>display > in the markers section to insert a marker in the wave>file." > "Select the marker by clicking it to assign the name to>it." > Not sure what this means either. I've tried everything I>can > come up with but nothing works. I cannot "un-grey" the>naming box > either. :-( You must have a keyword (enclosed in <> ) in the phrase before it is possible to add markers.

HI,Thank you, Lars, for your reply. It really helped clear things up for me. Now I have an understanding of how to use the Phraseology section.Your program is excellent. I've had a lot of enjoyment out of creating call signs - especially for my AI aircraft. I've become fairly good at creating the callsigns by adjusting the wave patterns in the Sound Segment section so that they sound appropriate for ATC. Thank you again for your help.Best regards,Tom :-)
