March 27, 201511 yr Guys, can you please advice the person with very limited amount of available free time: why is Flight Director on the ND showing up only with the use of TOGA function via that imaginary click spot? Otherwise it will show up when you activate/engage the autopilot, so the climb-out happens with no FD reference. Something specific to NGX only, I'd like to know if possible to have a FD with manual power setting as with other aircraft. Alexander Zar

There's a switch for the flight director. Is it turned on? Also, if you have the F/D turned on, you need to give it instructions to direct you by. Even with the A/P off, you can select modes that will drive what the F/D shows. Kyle Rodgers
March 27, 201511 yr Author Hi Kyle, yes, the switch is "on" and I even tried to cycle it on-off-on-off... The altitude is set, what else do I need to do? You mean I have to press/activate VS before taking off and engaging AP? I used to do this in the beginning, don't remember how the FD reacted to it but since then I engage the modes (on whatever I fly) only when airborne a few feet up... 777, MD-11, Coolsky-80, LDS 767, Airbus-X have active FD before modes engaged. March 27, 201511 yr From memory, if you switch on the FD in flight with the autopilot off, it engages in no mode and with no command bars. You have to select a mode (VNAV, LNAV, V/S etc) before you will get command bars. This is different to other types, where you will often get either HDG HOLD | VS or ATT | VS. On the ground, the FD will engage in TOGA | TOGA. Simon Kelsey
