I think you are refering to the situation where you try to enter a folder on a web server that is not public. Servers will not let you view a page that is not explicity shared (world readable). In that case you'll see an error message that says you don't have the right privilages to view the folder.

That's a 403 you're referring to, "permission denied"?I think what he means are applets, Flash stuff, etc. wanting rights to access resources on his computer.I as a policy deny that always unless I know for certain what they're going to be doing and why (which means I always deny permission unless I explicitly trust the writer and deployers of the applet to be trustworthy and not going to do anything destructive or intrusive).
