Freeflow Florida and white cards

Featured Replies

I installed this excellent scenery and after a lot of trouble free VFR flying all over Florida, crossed the pond towards my home airport SKCG. This is what I found when I got there:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/120846.jpgNow I understand there is an issue with trees coming up as white cards. Thing is the white cards show up at an airport way beyond (over 1000 nm) the freeflow scenery coverage. Besides that, the squares show all over an apron that would normally not have trees growing in the middle of it. I disabled all the scenery entries for the Freeflow florida addon and as expected, the white squares went away. Any clues? Thanks,Mauricio

You do need to have Gerrish Grey's trees installed. Have you done that? This is in the README, if I recall, but many other bits of useful info are in the Freeflow forum:http://fs-freeflow.com/forum2/index.phpMark "Dark Moment" Beaumont[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

Thanks Mark,I am downloading the tree library as I write this. I had read about it but figured it was already on my system since I had no problems whatsoever with this scenery while flying VFR in Florida. I really don't understand how come the white squares show up in a Colombian airport, miles away from the US and on grounds that would normaly not have trees growing on them. Weird, huh?

Ha! I didn't read your post properly, did I ..... *:-* Could it be to do with the disabling of default files required by FSFreeflow? Perhaps. Anyway, let us know what happens when you've reinstalled Gerrish!Mark "Dark Moment" Beaumont[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

The cause it that the columbian scenery uses an identical texture that Toni has used for his trees in the FFFL scenery, and you've got duplicates in the FREEflow city folder, and the colombian airport folder - if you can find out which texture is duplicated, just make sure you move them to your main Textures folder (or sceneryworldtexture). As long as you have one copy in a central texture folder, both sceneries will work fine. Please let me know if you find out which textures they are - I'll add the info to the FAQ.Also, there's a utility called "find all duplicates", but - I'm serious - I can't find it right now...!Best,sg

Thanks Gridley and let me congratulate you on an excellent scenery. I downloaded the tree library noticing afterwards that I already had it. That's why I saw no white cards while flying in Florida. I could be wrong here but I'm guessing that your theory regarding duplicate textures would be feasable only if I was getting the white cards in places where my colombian scenery would otherwise display trees. As you can see, there are white cards on the airport tarmac which I am possitive do not exist in my Colombian scenery. They go away when I disable the freeflow scenery.Either way, I'll search for duplicated files and get back to you.Mauricio

I see your point. Maybe some other object texture that's not a tree? Also, could you check for me if you enable just the FREEflow Florida layer (which contains no custom textures) if the cards go away? If it is a texture issue, then it would be one of the other layers causing the problem...THANKS!Best,sg

Hi Scott,Although I did have the tree library on my HD, it wasn't installed in FS9. After installing and as expected, I got this:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/120898.jpgAs you can see it is in fact trees that are placed by freeflow florida directly on my SKCG airport ramp. The instructions for installing Gerrish's tree library clearly state that you have to remove a number of texture files starting with "tree_" and "conifer_". There were no conifer files on my FS9 directory but the freeflow folder for St. Petersburg was full of "tree_" files that are also part of Gerrish's library, so I deleted them. Gerrish says that having duplicate texture files slows the sim down. I then copied all of Gerrish's tree texture files directly to my scenery/world/texture folder. The Florida scenery is working well but I still get these weird trees at SKCG.Also no other folder on the freeflow package has generic texture files or a "tree.bgl" in it. Only St. Petersburg. This led me to disable St. Petersburg and as expected, the trees at SKCG go away.As for the dupicate files, I have the following files on both my addon scenery texture folder (where the colombian scenery texture files reside), and the St Petersburg texture folder:tree_column.bmpPalme1.bmpPalme2.bmpPalme3.bmpAs per your instructions I tried to send them to my main texture folder but no cigar...Maybe you could try selecting SKCG and see if you get the trees on the apron? This way we could isolate the problem.Sorry for the trouble.Mauricio

Hey Scott,I just rememebered some time ago I tried to put trees on this airport using Rwy 12. They never showed up. I guess it was because I didn't have Gerrish's tree library. I just can't understand why by disabling St Petersburg the trees would go away. Weird.

Neither do I, but it's something I want to figure out. We have run into the same issue with JC McCormick's KFLL addon...

Nope, There's got to be something else. Last night I removed all the SKCG bgl's in my static scenery folder and the trees were still there. No aditional scenery. Only the addon Colombian mesh. I think I can live without St. Peterburg cuz I don't fly there often. However if you do find a cure I'd like to know about it.Best,Mauricio

Do you have a Trees_0.bgl in your st. pete folder? If so, try pulling that - I think it's a duplicate of Gerrish's tree's library. Thanks!sg

FWIW, I ran into runway trees after installing new airport scenery for Jackson Hole WY...it was a while back, but to the best of my recollection, I simply deleted the scenery add on...I don't know if this will help anyone, but it is a phenomenon beyond FF sceneries...:-(Sherm
