Terrain.dll CTD

Recommended Posts

Earlier today, I was able to load the P3D sim, no problem. Changed aircraft, changed airport to the Isle of Man. As I have an Earth Simulations IoM, originally bought for FSX, decided to try and install that.

That's when the sim kept repeatedly toppling over with a APPCRASH Faulting Module: terrain.dll error.

Try to fire sim up, get as far as Loading Terrain Data screen followed soon after with the CTD

I have rolled the system back through System recovery back to 2 days ago when everything was working okay. Even tried the latest Hotfix.Nothing helps. Any assistance appreciated.

Short of total re-install, has anyone got a solution to this screw-up? Thanks.l

Hi Rick,

According to the AVSIM CTD Guide (which Googles the Internet for all the possible or known solutions), it is caused by a high terrain/scenery setting. Reduce by a notch or two.

Hi Jim

Thanks for that suggestion, but everything about the sim was working flawlessly and nothing is set to high. In fact I've managed 2-3 long 6-hour+ flights using the LatinVFR and FSDT sceneries without any OOMs. But my problem is compounded in that I cannot even get to the settings even I were to follow your suggestion as it does not load.

Move your p3d.cfg, dll.xml, and scenery.cfg over to a temporary folder. Restart p3d.

You can have all of your FSDT sceneries enabled in the scenery.cfg. They will not load unless you are near them. LatinVFR will load even if you are in Alaska. If you have any other photosceneries, you need to disable only the ones you need.
