FMC issue?

I tried flying from Fairbanks to Anchorage yesterday and an issue came up that I'm not sure is a PMDG issue or a nav database issue. I was attempting to use the GALENA FOUR SID out of Fairbanks and the KROTO1 STAR into Anchorage. When I programmed them into the FMC it gave me the correct distance between GALENA FOUR and the waypoint prior to the SID. The problem is the display was showing 297 NM between that waypoint and the beginning of the KROTO1 STAR. Now I know it's only 200 NM to Anchorage from Fairbanks and I don't understand where the 297 is coming from. I tried two other STARS and came up with similar results. Thoughts?

PUYVO SID to KROTO STAR. You're going way out of your way if you go to GAL.

You used the wrong SID. GALENA4 goes west and you want to go south. Like Matt said use PUYVO1 which is to the south.

Probably not using the right SID/STAR, and/or not understanding or looking at the charts. The FMC is great, but it will not do all the thinking for you. In your case, the transition (not a required part of a SID) is bringing you nearly the distance of a direct flight between the two out of the way. As Matt mentioned, a different STAR is probably even more appropriate.

 

Example:

Blindly choosing a STAR for routing to IAD could actually have you flying clear up to Boston before turning inbound back towards IAD.
