July 14, 200520 yr Hi,I have a very annoying problem and just wanted to ask if someone else is experiencing the same. First I thought it was a problem with IvAp (the pilot client software on IVAO) but then I realized it was not but rather seem to be a problem within FS itself. What happens is that whenever I'm running FS in fullscreen mode (which I always do) there is a short delay causing FS to "freeze" for about 2 seconds when I open another window, for example the IvAp panel but same thing happens when I open the FS Navigator window as well and I also see this delay simply by pressing the ALT key to access the FS menu. I could start a standard flight in the default Cessna and then when I press the ALT key to access the menu to fuel the a/c up, it will take about 2 seconds for FS to let me access the menu. It shows up right away but FS is freezed for these 2 seconds when I can do nothing but wait for it to "un-freeze" again. But what I found out now is that this delay won't show up if:1. I run FS in windowed mode instead of fullscreen2. I already have one window/panel opened when I open/close the second one. This is also true for the FS menu, if I have for example the FS Navigator window opened, the menu will be very fast just the way you want it to always be. But...as soon as I close the FS Nav window the menu will be very slow again whenever I press ALT to access it.Well, hard to describe this problem but I hope someone understood what I was trying to say :-)Would be very glad if someone knows of this problem and even better has a cure for it...if there is one other than waiting for FS2006 ;-)Thanks in advance,
July 14, 200520 yr >Hi,>>I have a very annoying problem[CUT]Hi,I have EXACTLY the same problem as you, and with the same behavior you described. It's VERY annoying. In a pair of occasions I was able to get incidentally rid of it, but I don't remember exactly how. Probably, changing or reinstalling video drivers. But then had to reinstall FS or reformat PC and it came back again :(My rig:Barton 2500+@3200+Abit NF7-S2 FSB@2062x512MB twinmos pc3500@2-2-2-5@dualchannelSapphire Radeon 9800Pro 128MBMarco "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
July 14, 200520 yr Nice to hear I'm not the only one but sorry to hear you have the same problem :-hmmm There must be more than you and me with this problem??Maybe it's a video drv issue as you suggest but still I'm not too convinced since I've had this problem as long as I can remember...even with both my PC and FS fresh installed. To me it seems that the delay is when FS in some way seems to have to "switch" to some kind of a simulated windowed mode to be able to display add-on windows like FS Navigator, IvAp but even it's own menu. This is like we both know not an issue if running in windowed mode. Wonder if it could be a simple thing as a setting in the graphics driver or maybe something with the resolution...?Would be great if we could get more reports of the problem!! If there is a solution to this problem, I'm sure someone found it already and it would be more than GREAT if he/she could share it with us then!!
July 16, 200520 yr I have now been flying in windowed mode instead for some flights and all I can say is WOW - what an improvement!! All menus is MUCH faster and might be my imagination but I think I gained some FPS as well!Until now, I've always been running in fullscreen since I thought running in windowed mode wouldn't give you the same "beeing there" sensation but running in windowed mode and then maximizing it never crossed my mind. Doing that, you are still in windowed mode which will make FS in general much more responsive in every aspect and if you enable the 'Auto hide taskbar' option in Windows the only difference you will see is the menu at the top and that is something I can live with considering how much better everything else went.So...for all of you always running in fullscreen mode, give the windowed mode a chance and you might be surprised in a very pleasant way the way I was :-)
July 16, 200520 yr >and if you enable the 'Auto hide>taskbar' option in Windows the only difference you will see is>the menu at the top and that is something I can live with>considering how much better everything else went. There is more: you can hide menu bar too, by right clicking inside FS9 main window, and choosing the "Hide menu bar" option.Marco "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".
July 16, 200520 yr That's great, I'll try it next flight :-) I never stop getting amazed how you keep learning new tips & tricks within FS!!Thanks for the tip!
July 17, 200520 yr Author I have the same problem too! It's wierd though, I jump from windowed to full screen constantly for different reasons...when I'm planning a flight I stay in windowed mode just cause it's quicker to access all the menu functions I need...but...when I fly in windowed mode, as soon as I get a lot of textures running (thick clouds mainly), I get a systematic, constant stutter every 4 seconds or so. When I go to full screen it goes away...wierd stuff.anybody else see this?I'm running an ATI Radeon 9800XT in my AMD 3000+ 64 and a gig of ram...maybe time to get a x800..or 850XT :9 ---Brian Bash---398 HR MEL PPL and climbing!
