KJAC Scenery
You're gonna be hard pressed to find anyone to take their time and update a scenery for FS9, but maybe this will finally put you on the FSX train. http://www.fullterrain.com/product/kjac

Computer crashed , now what.
Kind of motherboard? Have you tried switching power supply off, unplug it for 3 minutes, plug it back in then turn back on again? Also, pull the video card and memory out and try re-seating them.

Computer crashed , now what.
Alrighty, first things first. What card did you have before? First rule of a crashed system, set BIOS to default settings, remove everything except the CPU, 1 stick of ram and if your Motherboard does not have integrated graphics, try the most basic video card you can and see what happens. If it boots, get to BIOS, go default and restart. If it boots to windows I suspect 1 of 1 thing, power supply. It could also be that the power for the GTX980 isn't passing correctly or it's not sitting in the slot just right. Try it, let us know. -B

980ti SLI or 1080?
brianbash replied to jay281's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcMaybe so with P3D, but I use my computer for 2 things. P3D and as my main brain in for my audio production/studio. Those 10 cores would make my rig a straight-up beast in Pro Tools.

Give 3.3 a try
Does Active Sky Next work with 3.3 now? I remember trying a flight but ASN would not load so I went back to 3.2. I would like to answer the thought Rob had in another thread. He wondered out loud if Lockheed kept that little trick in there, of 'Steve's DX10 Fixer's' ability to disable MSAA on clouds The answer is yes, it seems they did. I used Migration Tool to install Steve's DX10 fixer just to try and disable the Aliasing on the clouds and it seems to have worked. I now have no real noticeable dip in frames no matter the coverage. Also, the newest drivers from nVidia along with PTA3.2, which is allowing us to edit the quality of FXAA, were major boosts for me. No longer does FXAA make everything blurry and the newest driver seems really solid and shows noticeable improvement. Win 10 Skylake 6700K (2) Two GTX980Ti's in SLI 32GB RAM

I'm a victim of the nVidia driver beast.
brianbash replied to brianbash's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcNo OC'ing done by me. I stay away from doing that. This is also my SoundGrid server for my production work so it's vital that I keep things stock and stable. I'm not saying that it was 100% the driver, I'm just saying it's an extremely odd coincidence and wanted to share what had happend. Is there any power connection between the GPU and CPU that could cause something like this? Either way, my system didn't want to go into windows and maybe in my troubleshooting rage I killed the CPU somehow. Oh well, I was told that Intel is a great company when it comes to RMA situations and the fact that I got the processor less than 2 months ago may be enough for them to fix the situation I have had. Not sure, I was told a core was gone but thats it. Thank you for the insight though, I will ask which core is bad in the future if I have to.

I'm a victim of the nVidia driver beast.
This post is to voice my most recent experience regarding the issues some have been having with the new drivers. The reboot needed to complete driver installation was the last my i7-5930K would have. Power cycling began, would never post to windows or even DOS. It would freeze and reboot at different times. Every blue moon, it would tease me with the windows sign-in screen, so I would try to enter my password...hah! Reboot. Even after replacing the motherboard, PSU, ram, video card, pulled all the hard drives to get to BIOS only, it still wouldn't get to windows. I was exhausted and knew the dreaded had occurred. After dropping it to the wonderful tech personnel at Fry's for diagnostic tests, my fears were confirmed. My i7-5930K had lost a core. I purchased another and am currently back home repairing my gigantic P3D install. I have switched sides and will remain with Team Red from now on. One thing I noticed from my first glance with my new Fury X is that the famous anti-aliasing shimmer had died with my CPU. Good Riddance! Sure, it could be an extremely odd coincidence it happend when it did, but nonetheless I feel it needs to be spoken for. Blue Side Up gentlemen.

P3D3.2 looks really good, but hesitations are really bad!
Exacta-mundo my friend! I have come to the same conclusion, it's definitely the Autogen of ORBX. I have both FSGlobal and GEP3D. When I compare them, P3D loads much quicker and is smoother with GEP3D. The problem I have with GEP3D is that everything is too brown. I've heard many times that FTX Global is too green for everyone and while I can see what they are talking about, I solved the green issue with a little help from the lovely ReShade framework. Hell I even took my Laptop up in my Aztec with me to compare GEP3D and FTX Global and global was the clear winner. GEP3D has my local area coated with a heavy "tan" or colorwashed look and it is anything but that, especially after all of the rain that we have been having. Maybe we can put our little brains together and figure out how to ditch ORBX Autogen but keep everything else?

P3D3.2 looks really good, but hesitations are really bad!
Well, I think I'll chime in on this one. I have done a few things the past few days that have had monumental results on my performance. At first I was thinkin "Man, all these addon's really screw up P3D". I wanted some AI that I could have at a higher setting than 8%, I wanted the autogen to actually be pop-free etc. etc. Let me Preface this with a statement. Nothing would make me happier than a completely smooth sim with a modest amount of addon's and eye candy. We all know how that goes, let the addon games begin!! Unfortunately, that just isn't possible with P3D at this time. 32-bit can only handle so much. We are a lucky to be apart of such a giving and helping community. Now, onto my findings!! One day while cleaning my HD's, I came across Texture Optimizer. Hey, I remember this!! We used to get the more FPS with AI traffic higher than 1%! I said "**** it", I'm running this on every texture in that doomed Prepar3D folder. My ORBX Folder (75GB!!), my texture folder, my scenery folder, my addon Scenery folder...all of it!! Boy am I glad that I did. Besides the over 8GB of space I got back, I got a much smoother flying expierience and less loading time. It brought me to the question of "Why do they still keep using .BMP files?" Or "Why do they need to make the .dds files DXT5 instead of DXT3 or even DXT1c if there is no mask present?" Texture optimizer can be downloaded HERE I was so happy, the effects of my "FS Flying Withdrawl" took over and before you know it, I was off the wagon and knee-deep in everything. Config files, .xml files, the whole thing! I thought when I started "Oh boy, there goes another week of my life". I couldn't have been more wrong. I only added the following lines to my .cfg file.... [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=15603 [MAIN] FIBER_FRAME_TIME_FRACTION=0.01 AUTOGEN_TREE_MAX_DRAW_DISTANCE=12000.000000 AUTOGEN_TREE_MIN_DISTANCE_TO_LOD=1500.000000 TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_BUILDINGS_PER_CELL=1000 TERRAIN_MAX_AUTOGEN_TREES_PER_CELL=2000 UseGlobalTerrainView=True [GRAPHICS] CLOUD_SHADOW_TEXTURE_SIZE=512 CLOUD_SHADOW_TEXTURE_SIZE=512 HIGHMEMFIX=1 IMAGE_QUALITY=3 Easiest way to calculate AffinityMask need as follows: Load Prepar3d with NO AM line in the .cfg file. With the help of project Lasso, saw which core's Prepar3D liked to use the most. It loved Cores 0, 2, 3 and 6 (Intel 5930K) so I calculated with the fantastic Affinity Mask calculator found HERE and viola, that's the number it came up with. I thought "Wow! Now I just wish I could have AI". After a little digging, I found my WoAI mass downloader. This is a mass downloader for all WoAI Packages! To say I was blown away when I could put my traffic to 100% and sit at default airports at 35 and complex add-on airports at 18-20 is an understatement...mind you I am running at 3820x2160...I'm also using a Texture Load of 4096...which really is only the HD Airport Graphics I love so much. Nothing like those HD runways I have converted all of Ray Smith's fantastic scenery to be working in Prepar3D V3.2. I'm thinking of contacting Ray to seek his permission to upload this for all to have. Crucial work done by that fine man IMO. If you download Texture Optimizer, follow these three easy steps. STEP 1: Do this on every desired folder with textures you'd like to compress/optimize. DO NOT DO THIS TO THE SCENERY/WORLD/TEXTURE FOLDER!!!! SEE STEP 2! STEP 2: For your SCENERY/WORLD/TEXTURE folder make sure you DO NOT resize the img files. It will resize files with sizes like 8,124x256 to whatever the number would be. THIS IS NOT GOOD, it will mess up your entire planet. Luckily, there is a backup option which allows you to easily fix any issues...as seen in the second image. STEP 3: Kill MyTraffic, UT2 and try a WoAI package. As I said with my Preface, stutters will ALWAYS be there, it's just being able to keep them as quiet as possible. Happy Simming!

Weird graphical effect looking out of the window from v/c
I've had the same exact issue as you for the past 2 weeks. What video cards are you using? I'm also seeing shadow related issues that can be seen like my picture below. Notice the shadow as it extends away from the nose of the aircraft: Sorry for the Ultrawide photo...actually...I'm not sorry. Helen Keller felling Charlie Chaplin's face. Anytime I feel myself start to get "whiney" on anything, I remember this photo.

V3 Issue when not paused or in Slew...
Since it's much easier to show than explain, I uploaded a clip to youtube showing my problem. Basically, when paused or in Slew, all is well. As soon as I get out of that mode it all goes to...well, you know.... Check it out and let me know your thoughts. No add-ons, no nothin, tried different card drivers but nothing seems to fix it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qn5p6dqWpRc

Correct, just type my name "Brian Bash" without quotes in the search box. If my memory serves me correctly I thought my AAL MD80 was fantastico at the time...I'd love to see it now...

Holy Canoli Batman!
Yesterday, I remember thinking to myself "Hmm, I wonder if any of the small things I've created for the FlightSim series are still available anywhere..." Well, wouldn't you know it...proudly taking up server space on flightsim.com for almost 20 years now....still hanging tough!!! http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/fslib.php?searchid=40683385 I would just hop around with laughter if I could figure out a way to get that scenery to work in FSX/P3D! I'm 32 now so that means I made my KROC scenery when I was only 14 (!!!!) Also, small request, if anyone happens to have the Flight1 MD80...I would just love to see a modern picture of the AAL Repaint I did back in 2005 which is located here on AVSIM. I only have P3D and I am not sure I want to spend $40 on the MD80 if it isn't compatible with P3D. http://library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=Brian+Bash&CatID=root&Go=Search That is all, Carry-on

The Hawker riding high
Well, I'm spoiled. I'm running a STRIX GTX980Ti with 6GB VRAM on a Intel 5820K OC'ed to 4.2....I'm going to get another GTX980Ti and 2 more Samsung 48" Curved 4K 3D TV's...go big or go home baby!!!
-
The Hawker riding high
Yup, it sure is. That's nVidia's DSR feature at work. It renders at 7680 x 4320 then down-scales it 3840 x 2160. It's wonderful, especially for any issues or "shimmering" from Anti-aliasing. Its available in the stock control panel from nVidia. Manage 3D settings>Global Settings>DSR Factors
-
The Hawker riding high
I'm not sure what I was thinking but in the Prepar3d.cfg file I put TEXTURE_MULT_BANDWITH at 1024. Now I'm rocking 7680x4320 on my 4K Samsung 3D Curved TV. It is absolutely unreal. So smooth. Not a single CTD. Maybe I just stumbled upon something. The textures are much more prominent 100 miles away.

Jon Venema says P3Dv3 more like a 2.6
Oh I'm with you Rob, 100%. It was more of me tapping the vein, the vein that says "I need something else to mess with!! All this stuff is the same code!!....ohhhh...look at those pretty houses and streets and it's even got an Old Navy fully modeled!!" I don't care what anyone says, P3D is my sim and I'm sticking to it, through thick and thin. Sure, people are off-put by the bugs, but that's just because we've been biased. So, so much work has been done by my fellow simmers. FSX is the seemingly "safe option". Not for me, I'm on the P3D boat now. For Pete's sake, it's the only boat with gas in it! I also agree it was worded quite snarky. But hey, that's business baby. If you're going to try to ride a new wave and really set yourself apart from "The Others", 75% is the swag of marketing. I hope these individuals know what they are getting into, us simmers are a ruthless breed and will have no issues lighting the torches and marching to burn any witch that brings black magic into our community!! The stutter-spell is something we have felt ever since the first witch appeared. That witch was FS5. The quick eradication to 5.1 wasn't happenstance, it was a necessary cover-up of the evil. The evil that 5.0 tried to lure us into after we had been playing 4.0 and ATP Airline Simulator for oh so long. I apologize, I was involved in a car accident yesterday. I'm okay, but the med's have got me glued to my seat and my mind is a little...out there. I hope someone got a laugh out of it. I sure did. Anyways, back to the Bash vs. OOM trial. You can find progress of said case just a couple threads below.

Ladies and Gentleman, I am on a OOM mission...
Time to try multiple scenery.cfg files. I am going to be using the wonderful tool Scenery Config Editor. Absolutely a must have. Click and drag your layers around with ease, assign groups and even colors! Get it here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/fs-sceditor/ I also highly recommend Texture Optimizer which was found on the SKYRIM boards. Use of this tool on MyTraffic aircraft alone helped me gain 375MB of disk space. http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrim/mods/12801/? Flying in the USA, I'm only going to load the airports I am flying to and from along with only the basic add-ons. For example, a flight from Bangor, Maine to Boston to Dulles ORBX Global ORBX Freeware Airports UTX FlyTampa Boston Flightbeam KIAD I'm not talking about just unchecking the box, I'm talking a new scenery.cfg for every flight...here is what It looks like as of now. I am going to use REX4 Texture direct with the highest settings, MyTraffic6 and the PMDG 737 NGX with high settings and see how far I can make it. I will also be using CleanMem for the process. Like stated earlier, I will REMOVE areas from the config file, not just uncheck them. Supposedly if they are only unchecked they still get thrown into VSA usage territory. Let's see what happens!! Well, rather impressive. I made it from KBGR to about 500FT AGL on ILS 22L in KBOS before I hit OOM. I believe it would have been much, much sooner had I not changed my scenery.cfg file. Mind you this is with all sliders to right, REX with all textures at 4096 and Texture_Max_load at 4096. I had overcast skies for the final 15 minutes and I'm guessing thats what did me in. I shall continue testing. Next phase: Same .cfg file REX textures down to 1024 for clouds, 4096 for Runway and Taxiways Texture Optimizer on both the Texture Folder and the World/Texture folder to make every texture down that is above 1024. KBOS to KIAD here I come Sidenote, this is the smoothest I've ever had the sim run. It was a pleasure. Even when it crashed I was like "Wow you made it so far!! Way to go P3d!!"

TVs as P3D monitors
brianbash replied to FaxCap's topic in Video Hardware: Monitors | Multi-Monitors | Video Cards | Drivers etcIf only y'all could see what my sim setup is...maybe I'll post a pic later. I'm using a Samsung 4K 48" Curved 3D Smart TV with a 24" dell in Portrait mode as a wing for addon's. You haven't lived until you've taken P3D to the literal part of town at 2X DSR 4K, 3D, 60Hz, Strix 980Ti...

P3D 3.0 Speculation & General Nonsense
I understand everyone's caution with Windows 10. Trust me, I would be in your boat, but my situation was just timed this way. I built a new CPU a month ago. I use my computer for 2 Major things. Pro Tools HD for music production (work) or P3D for my hobby/staying on my toes while I wait for my Aztec to get finished with overhaul...only 2 weeks until pick-up!! Anywho, it just wound up me in full-on Frankenstein build mode. I installed every version of Windows multiple times and threw the insider build of Windows 10 in the mix. I noticed the improvement from 8/8.1 immediately (I have been on the Mac side of the fence for a couple years so 7 wasn't really an option). I had the drive, time and definite need to build the best PC/Hackintosh possible. Luckily I've been building computers since I was 15. My first move with any Windows install is a COMPLETE SWEEP the control panel. I'm talking every page. I must say it's definitely different, but the Windows Update thing that everyone is turned off about is a very easy to find option. Hit your Windows Key, start typing Windows Update, click it, click advanced (always) and change automatic to notify of download. It is finally in front of me. (Trying to sound like Tom Skeritt in Top Gun) Gentlemen, it's glorious. Asus X-99 MB, i7-5820K OC'd 4.3, 32GB 2400MHZ, STRIX GTX980Ti 6GB, (2) 500GB Samsung 840 SSD HD, (2) Windows 10 installations, 48" Samsung Curved 4K 3DTV (nVidia with 3D vision in P3D...whoa...good lord), 1 Dell 27" Screen in portrait mode as a wing for my Samsung. I'm not discrediting or faulting anyone's decision, trust me, I know how you feel. I've done probably 3 clean installs in the past 2 weeks. All I'm saying is that it really is much nicer than any windows in my recent memory. Way less instrusive than 8/8.1. I felt like 8 was in full control, asking way too many questions. Kind of the opposite of Mac OSx Yosemite, at least in the questioning field. Yosemite installed and took over. Typical Apple. "Hey you know that program you use on here A LOT? Well, sorry, we changed the options and you can't do that anymore...sorry...but check out our new MacBooks!!! SO THIN!!!" So think of me as Scout...and I'm saying I've had zero problems since major release. What you do is totally your call, do your thang chicken wing. I'm also saying...use only SSD Hard Drives. Why not buy a 250GB SSD at BestBuy and throw Windows 10 and P3D on there and try it out? Still way less involvement than trying to get FSX to it's sweet spot...when it should've already been there. If you do it and wanna throw your computer out of the window, no biggie. Return the hard drive and let it rest until you're comfortable. I'm just expressing my excitement because I've been doing that for years on here...I don't need to explain myself...LOL Oh, about P3D V3...good lord I've had 2.5 for a couple months...she's got me by the heart. It was like breaking up with a girl you really liked but never got her to slow down on the drinking (FSX) and found an even hotter chick with way less problems and awesome immersion (Cockpit shadows). Score!! Wait...she has a sister moving in sometime soon who's even hotter?! (P3D V3) It is very easy for me to make an OOM happen in P3D because my FPS is pretty much un-affected. KJFK with full-sliders goes to OOM in about 1 minute (PMDG NGX, NY Airports X, UTUSA, GEP3D, MyTraffic 6, REX). Heck, give me a 64-bit V2.5 and I'm bouncing off the walls with happiness! xMas...pleeeasssseee Santa?! I just wanna look at the present, I swear! (Come on...one shot!)

P3D 3.0 Speculation & General Nonsense
Boom. Dude, you should have embedded a "drop the mic" sound because you earned it. Side-note, Windows 10 is running amazing on my rig. Granted, I have a beast at my desk, but it is running my Pro Tools HD rig better than my buddies G5...and that is saying A LOT...like A LOT A LOT. I hope Lockheed realizes that times change, be that amazing first sim/game to utilize DX12. The benefit could be substantial to the aviation industry on a whole. At 32 and working in the entertainment industry, I see a lot of what interests the younger one's. Flying a plane isn't looked at like it was 20 years ago. People are spoiled very easily and have plenty of gadgets to divert attention. You've gotta have some pretty awesome graphics to get any attention nowadays. My advice would be: 1) Suck it up and develop/invest in DX12 2) Make an awesome xBox One Military Flight Simulator. Yup, for entertainment purposes. 3) Enjoy a new wave young one's signing up for your aviation programs in real life...now your investment has come full circle. On a whole, the aviation industry is going to be forced to change it's ways in the very near future. Kid's aren't as interested in glass cockpit's and parents don't want to pay 100K+ for their kids to get aviation/college education for a job that has a starting salary of $21,050 a year. I apologize for my soapbox, it just slid right out in front of me.
