July 15, 200520 yr Couple of questions regarding the Flight1 C172. Is it possible to use this airplane with the built-in FS9 tutorials instead of using the default Microsoft C172?Secondly, I noticed that the instrument panel blocks a lot of the front view. In order to see over the panel I end up raising the seat (shift-backspace)or I will press W to just have the basic instruments on the screen. By raising the simulated seat am I downgrading the realism of what a real C172 is supposed to look like from the cockpit?Thank you.
July 15, 200520 yr in real life you can adjust the seat...i hate how VC views are always created as if everyone is 4 feet tall. If you want to change the view by default, open up the aircraft.cfg file, look for view= and mess with the numbers. I think the first number is forward/backward, 2nd is right/left, and 3rd is up/down

Reducing the zoom to .66-.8 usually resolves most of the viewpoint issues, but that can really distort the pilot's outside perspective.-John
July 15, 200520 yr One of my pet hates in this forum are people who do not read the posts -- the original poster is asking a question about the 2d panel-- not the VC. Yet the 2 replies he has received are all about the VC.I haven't tried it myself - but I believe that you "could" use the Flight1 C172 in the FS9 lessons - just load up a lesson and then quickly load up the new a/c and see how it goes. Although the 2d panel of the Flight1 C172 is certainly very clear, I am personally very dissappointed with it. It is everything that the original poster said. Fortunately for me , I now only fly using the VC and I find the VC to be reasonably good at a zoom of 75%. I only use the 2d panel for IFR flights where I don't need to see out the window anyway. Anyway, quite frankly, I don't know why I purchased a 172 - it was just that everybody was raving about it. Barry

Sorry this stirred one of your pet "hates", but please remember the responses are an attempt to help, so focus on that positive rather than the negative vibe you decided to introduce in what I quoted above.-John

Reducing the zoom>to .66-.8 usually resolves most of the viewpoint issues, but>that can really distort the pilot's outside perspective.>ctrl enter & ctrl backspace will at least move the VC viewpoint without changing the outside view. And for anyone else that cares, I always use shift enter & shift backspace to move the VC seat height, which is my preference to "seat adjustment" in 2D views. For 2D, it's use the mouse to pull the panel down; use a panel that has a landing view, or get rid of it altogether, since in a real plane, you're not totally focusing on the panel & outside view at the same time. I "always" use shift Z for airspeed, heading, and altitude readouts; instead of squinting for quick information on small gauges. L.Adamson

Thank you for your suggestion but unfortunately that did not work because it does not allow you to load another aircraft. Does anyone else know if it's possible? Thank you.
July 18, 200520 yr Have you tried asking these questions on Flight1's forums?http://www.simforums.com/forums/default.asp Rick
July 19, 200520 yr Yess -- I have now tried it myself and you cannot change the a/c used in the FS2004 lessons directly from within the Sim.. You can change the a/c by changing the a/c shown in the (associated lesson).FLT file - but the problem with this is that the flight dynamics of the original a/c and that of the one you have replaced it with ( in this case the Flight1 C172) are different and so , when the instructor tells you to maintain 60 knots with 2000 RPM, you cannot do it.Barry

Nowhere does it say anything about the panel, but it says they have to use the W key just to see the runway when landing. Could you have been any more rude in your response? It sure seems like it could be a VC issue to me, hence using the shift button to raise the view.
