July 24, 200520 yr This has probably been asked and answered before but I would like to know if it is possible to edit something in the aircraft or panel.cfg files that would reduce the intensity of some of the gauge lights - especially white. When flying at night, even with the navigation (panel) lights off, the white on the gauges is sometimes almost blinding - too bad there is not a "dimmer" switch to reduce the "glare".Any ideas appreciated.
July 24, 200520 yr http://www.flightsim.com/cgi/kds?$=main/howto/pink.htmthe competition has a nice article on that.basically, you can tell the sim what color to use, thus you should be able to either intensify or subdue that color a bit.i use the following values for my DC8 panel,it gives a nice glow, not to0 bright.find this entry in the panel.cfg and change as desired.{Color} {=square bracket in the sim.Day=255,255,255Night=5,37,54Luminous=220,200,100where day and night refer to the panelbackground as a whole, and luminous to gauges that are lighted,so i think youmight want to change the luminous value ;)you can disable the original entry by adding two // in front of them.cheersJP.
July 24, 200520 yr Author Thanks for the ideas - not sure that will address the bright white I am seeing though. Will have to wait until it gets dark tonight so I can check it out in a really dark room.I appreciate the feedback.
July 24, 200520 yr well,i hope it'll help you.if it doesn't,then i think you shouldask the designer,as with every panel i use thatmethod usually guarantees i see panel lighting i like.if i may ask, what panel is troubling you?cheersJP.
July 24, 200520 yr Author I'm not at the computer right now where FS is installed so will have respond from memory. The default 737-400 panel is the one I use quite often. The auto-pilot lights and the attitude gauge and the compass (just above or below the attitude) glare quite white in a darkened setting. I will be trying your settings tonight and see if they modify the white also. Sure hope so as I did not see anything in that fine tutorial that spoke specifically about white color.I will be sure to let you know how it turns out this evening.
July 24, 200520 yr i've just tested it,but my settings do not help reducing the white.someone would have to modify the gauge bitmaps for that.i'm sorry i can't be of more help.cheersJP.
July 24, 200520 yr Just turn the brightness/contrast down on the monitor!I have two separate gamma settings for day and night flying. Solves the problem completely.Allcott
July 24, 200520 yr Author Geez - why didn't I think of that?? Too simple I guess.I shall give it a try!
