July 28, 200520 yr Hello,Sometimes I am seeing slower performance in FS2004, at the slow times I am getting 10-15fps, and at other times I am getting 35fps.When this slow time is happening I am noticing in the CTRL-ALT-DEL window that a service called services.exe is taking 30-50% of the CPU power. This happens at different times, it doesnt seem to be specific to addon plane or scenery as it can happen at any time with any addon which worked fine the previous time.Does anyone know why this services.exe might be happening at times with FS2004?, I have scanned for virus and spyware but the system is clean.ThanksSonia.
July 28, 200520 yr Explanation here Sonia. (Found by searching Google for "services.exe")http://www.liutilities.com/products/wintas...brary/services/I would check to make sure you don't have the Sober.P trojan on your system.
July 28, 200520 yr Hi!Use Ken Salter's program "FSAutostart" to disable the services you dont't want running, prior to load FS9. After closing FS9, it will reestablish the services you have disabled. Program to be found on different sites, it is freeware. Nice program.
July 28, 200520 yr Author There are many variations of Trojans and Worms that disguise themselves as services.exe. And many AV/Spyware programs can't handle that level of problem. A trojan-specific process such as TDS-3 or Tauscan should find the problem if present. The legitimate services.exe file should only be found in three places on a "clean" XP installation - WindowsSystem32, WindowsServicepackFilesi386, and Windows$NtServicePackUninstall$. If there is one present anywhere else you may, indeed, have a problem. See this URL for a list of those processes which should be removed from the startup list as they are definitely a services.exe issue: http://www.hardavenue.com/startup/services.exe.php . To check for these, go to StartRun and type in msconfig and then click on the Startup tab. If there are any of the bad guys there they can be temporarily disabled by removing the checkmark.Doug Intel 10700K @ 5.1Ghz, Asus Hero Maximus motherboard, Noctua NH-U12A cooler, Corsair Vengeance Pro 32GB 3200 MHz RAM, RTX 2060 Super GPU, Cooler Master HAF 932 Tower, Thermaltake 1000W Toughpower PSU, Windows 10 Professional 64-Bit, 100TB of disk storage.
