Anyone got the GoFlight 1.5 or 1.51 installer file knocking about?

Featured Replies

GoFlight released new stuff for their hardware, promising LDS767 compatability amongst other things. Not only does the LDS767 not work, but loads of the orginal capabilities are broken. No support is forthcoming from GoFlight 4 days after the release :(Anyone still got the 1.5 or 1.51 installer around the could send me? The 1.53 overwrote my installation, and I can't locate the older installer on my machine. Thanks to anyone that can help,Gareth Evans

Version 1.33 is still on the GF website...which is weird because 1.50/51 were the more recent.I have been a BIG supporter of GF on the forums but their failure to even respond to this issue on their support forum or to even re-post 1.51 is preposterous and inexcusable.I'll look for the 50/51 installer when I get home tonight but 33 should get you back flying until GF support people get their act together.Regards,Jim

If you let me know where to send it, I can get you the 1.50 installer, although as I said the 1.33 will probably suffice for the time being.Take good care of it though. It appears that GF may be going out of business. There is only your post on this forum and about 10 on their own support forum...none of which have been replied to and most e-mails, including two of mine have not been replied to. They don't seem to have too many users. There really is no excuse for that sort of customer disregard.Regards,Jim

If anyone could send me the 1.50 version I'd be eternally grateful. My address is [email protected] am disgusted with go-flight. The stuff is very expensive, and to release a version that causes so many problems (pretty much gives you no functionality), then take off the working version from their web site is totally poor customer relations. I have emailed them and posted on their forum, others have phoned them with no response. It takes months before you get a response at the best of times. Truly bad. My opinion is stay clear of go-flight. Sorry to say that.Dave.

>Why don't you look on the GF Forum before you post? The 1.50>is available for download and Doyle explans the current>situation.>>http://www.goflightinc.com/cgi-bin/ikonboa...f=5;t=253;st=10>Can't you read the time properly? I posted that hours before Doyle responded on the go-flight forum! How was I to know Doyle was going to respond hours later? Think before questioning me. Now there's a good life lesson. Given the track record on the go-flight forum we could well have waited months before a response. Thanks and good luck to you.Dave.

<>No he doesn't. He offers some partial things to look for and a comment specific to a single aircraft from level Dthe Level D.He didn't "explain" anything...except that he is off in some remote area...having just released a software version that is seriously flawed and by default, informs us the he is the only person associated with GoFlight that has a clue about the software. In addition, a few days ago, he proudly announced that he was about to introduce a "new version 1.51" when in fact, 1.51 was released months ago (then pulled off the website along with 1.50) and it was 1.53 that was released.Pretty troublesome IMHO.Regards,LONG TIME GOFLIGHT USER AND SUPPORTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You folks need to relax. Go Flight has been around for a long time, I don't think they will suddenly abandon us. If you've ever been part of a software development team, then you know that unplanned things go wrong all the time, even with 'perfect' releases and patches. Also, sometimes people go on vacation or otherwise are unavailable during a patch release, although it would be rare that the only 'person with a clue' is not available. Version 1.53 is not a major release, it is just a patch release with functionality added for specific circumstances (LevelD 767 for example). I personally enjoy the GoFlight hardware I have. I also did NOT upgrade to 1.53 since my 1.50 version is working flawlessly (and I don't have the LevelD 767).

As an owner of quite a few GF panels and enclosures, I have to say that I'm also - looking for the right word here - "perturbed" at the reaction to some problems with the 1.53 software. Personally, my beefs with it are:- the LGT flaps switch doesn't work - a known issue- I had to re-program all of my GF settingsThe second item is in theory quite annoying, but in practice I had all of my GF panels re-programmed in less than 10 minutes. But anyway - here is the gist of my post - FOR CRYING OUT LOUD your lives won't end if your GF hardware doesn't function as you'd like for it to for a few days. Doyle has made a link available to the previous version of the software (I'm sure that the original deletion of that link was an oversight)... and be advised that (as much as we'd hope it to be otherwise) he DOESN'T MAKE A LIVING off of the GF product line - he does it for the love of the hobby - and thus has other commmitments that must be tended to, in order to pay the bills and then get back to making the GF company hum.I hope I'm not speaking out of turn here but please let's give this small company that offers a very price-competitive line of hardware offerings to the hobby a chance to fix the new drivers.---From where I sit, some GF users' lives are dependent on their GF hardware working 100% correctly, and - well jeez, lighten up and get a second hobby or something 8^) . If you can find a company that offers a better product - go buy their stuff.THAT COMPANY DOESN'T EXIST. This is a niche hobby, and we should be thankful for those companies that make these kinds of products available to us. Duh.Dave Blevins

<>That is incorrect...according to Doyle's own description in announcing the new version.<>Regards,Jim

<><>Obviously, you must be a close personal friend for him to share the intimate details of his personal finances with you but, with respect, I disagree with your position.Providing products "for the love of the hobby" is what freeware developers do. If you are charging money...LOTS of money...for your products, then you are creating the impression that we all have a right to rely upon, that products will be "reasonably" supported."Reasonable" is, of course, subject to different interpretations but in my view, it is not reasonable to fail to so much as reply to NUMEROUS e-mails for a period of several days...let alone monitor or have SOMEONE monitor his own forum. There is no disclosure on the web site that the company is a one man show and a "sideline" at that, and that therefore, support of the product could and probably WILL be sporadic and could CEASE at any time...if Doyle simply tires of not making a living from the venture. If such a warning was posted, I think that he would have far fewer than the few sales you suggest he has achieved. But, in fact, GoFlight offers dozens of products...some costing nearly $3,000.00. Doesn't seem like a hobby to me.<>It's not a matter of the hardware working "100%" sir. In many cases, it didn't work AT ALL. Read the forums!Hey, I don't mind you standing up for your buddy. GOOD FOR YOU. But as the archives on this forum prove, I too have been a LONGSTANDING GF user and SUPPORTER and have REPEATEDLY touted the benefits of the product. But if people want to get into the kitchen, they need to be able to take the heat and Doyle's failure to sufficiently test a new VERSION (NOT A PATCH as you incorrectly posted) and then leave his entire user base to swing from their thumbs without bothering to have one of his buddies...you for example...ready to respond to tech support issues in his absence, simply JUSTIFIES the kind of heat he has been taking. Finally, as the GF forum proves, Doyle has finally reached a place on the planet that has internet access. Do you see a post from him on this forum? All that is on his forum are a few hasty suggestions for people to atttempt their own troubshooting and a sign off of "Cheers".I'm not sure "cheers" are in order under the circumstances.<>No, to the extent that you expressed your opinion on all this which is a primary reason for the existence of forums such as these. Where you crossed the line, in my opinion, is in lecturing us on getting other hobbies etc.<>That too, is your opinion but you certainly don't have any facts to support it since any number of companies offer similar products...Precision Flight Controls, for example....to wit, from their web site...which, in addition, shows a photo of their building which appears to be at least 10,000 square feet and I presume, employes more than one person."Precision Flight Controls, Inc. is the leading manufacturer of PC based flight training hardware in the industry today. Jim et al,If I could just jump in here as I'm both a programmer and a GoFlight owner. It's generally accepted policy amongst many (but not all unfortunately) programmers that if you issue a bug fix for a piece of software it is given a point release. So v1.5 or v1.51 (why the need for a second decimal place on such infrequently updated software?) should have changed to 1.6 if it was just a bug fix. However, as he has introduced new features that should have been treated as a major release and the version number incremented to v2.0.Whilst not wishing to bash Doyle or GoFlight I do find it worrying that for something that costs as much as it does that we appear to be relying on the skills of one individual to maintain this code. I hope there is another suitably skilled programmer to continue this work should Doyle be unfortunate enough to be run over by a bus :-(Cheers,

Ray - I know what you're saying and you are obviously correct, I believe Doyle described it differently. In any case it doesn't matter. Call it version 2500 for all I care. It obviously doesn't make the software work.I agree with what Jim has already said (well put Jim). One of the main problems was removing the previous version of the software. Sure, mistakes happen and I can forgive that. However, the new version (1.53) has been promised for a long time and we went months without hearing anything whatsoever. The go-flight forum had many un-answered posts etc. Then we get the promise of the new software, which was obviously exciting to people who have the LDS. To then install the new version and see your go-flight hardware fail and not work with the LDS (let alone cause other problems) is frustrating to say the least. If you don't own the LDS then it probably doesn't bother you so much. I know some people purchased hardware purely because of the promise of LDS support.I too am concerned to hear that Doyle does it for the love of it and not as a true support person for go-flight. It costs a lot of money (especially here in the UK) and I hoped it would be better supported. It isn't good that Doyle is the only person in the world supporting this hardware.I really don't think it is purely the fact the new version is buggy - it is the way go-flight have handled the support that is getting people so upset. If this happened with something like Active Sky, one of the guys there would fix the problem (or at least answer a forum post) within a very short time frame. Go-flight has very poor support whatever friends of Doyle say.Regards,Dave.

Hi Dave,My point about the version number was of course minor compared to the problems people are encountering with the buggy software. I've experienced the problem myself as the flaps no longer appear to function using the LGT control but if I can't get it sorted using the current version I can revert to the previous GoFlight software which I always keep.I find it amazing that Doyle would release something that doesn't work - i.e. support for the LDS767. I don't own this but understand completely people's frustration with buggy software which seems to have taken ages to arrive and then support from Doyle appears patchy.I'm also not happy about prices for GoFlight gear here in the UK. The sole importer - who shall remain nameless - never varies his prices (except upwards!) when exchange rates fluctuate and the GoFlight sale in the US and Canada is non-existent over here. All very annoying. It's a pity we can't write to GoFlight direct about the quality (or otherwise) of support. Others such as AS as you point out have excellent support for something that costs a lot less than GoFlight hardware.Cheers,

Ray, Thanks for your reply. I agree totally with what you said.Someone posted a fix a few minutes ago (not a go-flight member of staff I don't think) for the LDS problems. I hope you find a solution for your flap problem soon!Regards,Dave.
