August 1, 200520 yr I want to fly my Airbus A320 in a realistic way. For take-off, I want to set up the V1, Vr and V2 speeds. I have found perf tables for this, but I have 2 different kinds of tables, and I don't know which one I should use:- Table 1 shows Max Weight, V1, Vr, V2 as a function of the head/tailwind and the OAT, for a given flap setting, and regardless of the actual aircraft weight- Table 2 shows V1, Vr and V2 as a function of the head/tailwind and the aircraft weight, for a given flap setting, regardless of the OAT.I thought V1, Vr and V2 were depending on flap setting, temperature and aircraft weight, but maybe I'm wrong...Who can help me on this?If someone has some A320 performance data, I'm also interested...Thanks.Eric My Web Site
August 1, 200520 yr Author Eric:You are absolutely right, on the real Airbus A320, you cannot get your vspeeds until you input your weight so it is interesting that you have a chart that calculates vspeeds without using your aircraft weight at all!Your vspeeds take quite a few things into consideration-Weight! Plays the primary factor. The higher your weight the higher your vspeeds will be. This goes across the board whether it is a Cessna 152 or a B747-400ER!-Flap Setting - Your flap setting is contingent on a few variables, Since the higher the flap setting the lower the given required vspeed for a specific phase of flight. Which again takes weight into account since a light aircraft on a long runway can use flap 1 but a MTW aircraft on a short runway will need flaps 15. It is not an arbitrary variable and is important in getting you airborne before your A320 becomes an ornament on someones lawn on the other side of the airport fence.-Temp/take off altitude is important and the FMC will calculate this for you. High altitude, high SAT means higher v speed for a given configuration. Then you plug those figures into the categories above. Likewise you can use a higher *perceived* temp to Derate your engines, which saves on noise fuel & wear and tear. Since a real A320 pilot would simply plug these numbers into the FMC to do the complex calculations it is not much to think about. However, if you are doing it on paper, you probably should use an extrapolation utilizing both charts. (someone else chime in if I am wrong).Regards,Mike T.
August 1, 200520 yr Gents,The V speeds are calculated from the quick reference tables which take into account such variables a slope, ambient temperature, weight, config, etc and entered into the PERF TAKEOFF page. The FMGS does not calculate them. Regards Howard H D Isaacs
August 1, 200520 yr That is correct the V speeds in the Airbus come from our Rwy performance manual.Flap seeting is THE major factor for reducing v speeds apart from a wet Rwy where you will see V1 speeds in the order of 110-115kts with regual Vr V2.Darren
August 2, 200520 yr Thanks to you all for your explanations!!Is there a way I can get these quick reference tables or Runway performance manual?Eric My Web Site
August 2, 200520 yr It be odd that you have one table showing V-Speeds. In our A32319/A320/A321's we use optimum V-Speeds - where speeds are optimised for each airport we operate into - so for EGPF we have a table taking into account the entire length of the runway, temp, weight, etc and not just the balanced fields ops. that our B737's use. It's an Airbus thing :(Matthew Murray
August 2, 200520 yr EricThere is a section on the quick reference manual in the FCOM (under Performance). Regards Howard H D Isaacs
August 2, 200520 yr @Matthew:I understand that you're supposed to have a table for each airport because V1, Vr, V2 depnd on the altitude and the length of the runway. The 2 tables I have give V1, Vr, V2 for a given runway length, runway altitude, runway slope, flap config (1+F), and packs config (ON). I don't know how I can "extrapolate" these figures to use them for any runway, if it is possible. Is it possible that you send me the EGPF as a sample? My e-mail is [email protected] in advance.Eric My Web Site
August 2, 200520 yr @DescendDescend:Thanks for the info, but I don't know what reference manual you're talking about... Can you please tell me more about this FCOM?Thanks.Eric My Web Site
