MS FSX and FSX SE chaos

Featured Replies

I recently "upgraded" to FSX SE and added a lot of Mega Scenery states with no issues. I really want to add aircraft as well, mainly commercial, but a few civil as well.

1. Can MS FSX aircraft add ons work in SE version?

2. Can both versions install on same machine at same time, and be handled as separate files for future mods?

3. Tried to install Gold Version FSX, but got "error occurred" message.

The SE version runs consistently 40+ FPS no matter how high I set detail levels, plenty of horsepower in my set up. Just wish I had that much horsepower in my technical skills.

Thanks

Bob

1: Yes

2: No

3: Probably because your SE has overwritten the previous FSX files. Choose which you need, and stick with that,

Actually both can be installed at the same time but you need to install fsx ms first, but it's best to just stick with fsx se since that's being updated with bug fixes

1. Can MS FSX aircraft add ons work in SE version?

Yes. Only a very small amount of addons are currently not (yet) supported by FSX-SE. Basically, anything that is supported by FSX classic is now supported by FSX-SE. In some cases, the addons have a separate installer for FSX-SE, in others (most) they simply install as they were running on FSX classic. All you have to do is point the installer to the root directory. Keep in mind that both versions are basically identical (same file names, same folders etc.), only the root path changes.

Yes, they can, I had both versions installed for months to perform a side-by side test. That said, why would you need FSX classic still installed when FSX-SE simply perform much much better and is also being constantly optimized by DTG?

I would need more information to understand this error.
