August 21, 200520 yr Greetings.I have misplaced the info to add the default GPS into PMDG. Would someone still have this? Thanks,TJ
August 21, 200520 yr Yea :)Just add this into your panel.cfg:------------------------------------------[WindowXX] size_mm=456,378window_size=0.5position=8BACKGROUND_COLOR=0,0,0VISIBLE=0ident=GPS_PANELgauge00=fs9gps!gps_500, 0,0------------------------------------------
August 21, 200520 yr Just out of curiosity, why would you want to add the GPS to the NG? The airplane already has one.
August 21, 200520 yr ------------------------------------------- Just out of curiosity, why would you want to add the GPS to the NG? The airplane already has one. -------------------------------------------Im not into complex systems etc...Im a casual simmer. I just take off and point the plane so that it follows the magenta GPS-track.Unless Im mistaken the PMDG panel does not display a moving-map...and thats what I missed. Which is why I personally added the default GPS to the panel.Of course the PMDG panel cant link to it but its cool to see the moving map of your present position hee hee :)
August 22, 200520 yr Commercial Member The main mode on the Navigation Display is a moving map dude... it's not going to help you if you don't learn how to enter a flight plan into the FMC though. There are several very good tutorials availiable (try Fred Clausen's to start) and you'd really be doing yourself a favor to learn the plane. I can have the thing programmed correctly and in the air in about 5 minutes at this point. Ryan MaziarzFor fastest support, please submit a ticket at http://support.precisionmanuals.com
August 22, 200520 yr I don't have the PMGD 737, and have no idea of it's systems. However, just a few weeks ago, a 737 pilot told me that these new Garmin 396 hand-held GPS's with XM Satellite weather, display a lot more distant weather information than what they get from the onboard systems. He'd like a setup like that! Note: XM weather is also available for some other PDA hand-helds & glass panel systems such as Avidyne and the Garmin 1000, as well as the Garmin 530.Also, and investigation board inquiry into two seperate accidents involving a 737 & 757 flying into terrain, recommended moving map GPS's to give pilots the "complete" picture, which they were NOT getting from their FMS.And it's a fact, that just a few years back, us users of hand-held GPS's had a more complete moving map, for added situational awareness, than what the military or commercial airlines had in their cockpits. I remember at one point, the Navy was issuing hand-helds for F-18's after an accident.A lot of "new" cockpits, do indeed have the magneta GPS track, and for all intents and purposes, it's by far the better way to go. But like I said, I don't know if the 737 modeled by PMDG has any type of moving map either.L.Adamson

Perhaps one day I will knuckle down to it. Yes...I belong to the "get in, light her up and go" group http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/contri...y/corkysm20.gifTBH I did *not* get the PMDG for its systems. I know they are brilliant but Im not into all that. I got it so I could have a nice NG737 with loads of skins and pretty wing-views.Sorted http://instagiber.net/smiliesdotcom/otn/wink/thumb.gif
August 22, 200520 yr >TBH I did *not* get the PMDG for its systems. I got it so I>could have a nice NG737 with loads of skins and pretty>wing-views.>>I dont even use the PMDG panel. I have renamed it to disable>it and I have the plane aliased to a simple "no-brainer" NG737>panel I downloaded: and it tracks the GPS hee hee.>I once had the FLY PMDG 757, the PSS 747, and Airbus 320. Never really got into the flight managment systems either, and probably bought them for their visuals too! :D As a GA pilot & kitplane builder, I just had this idea in my mind, that if I'm not going to fly it for real, then I'm not going to spend the required amount of time to master it in a sim. But that's my personal preference. As I've now got a little time in a Cirrus SR22 & Cessna 182 with the Avidyne & Garmin 1000 glass panel systems, I'm awaiting some full feature sim units, as that would be very useful. In the meantime, I've been hooking up a two axis A/P system tied to a hand-held Garmin 296 moving map, that will follow a complete flight plan from the GPS. August 22, 200520 yr "........TBH I did *not* get the PMDG for its systems. I know they are brilliant but Im not into all that. I got it so I could have a nice NG737 with loads of skins and pretty wing-views........."Does seem an expensive and wasteful way to go to achieve this. The modelled systems must account for a god proportion of the cost of the PMDG. I wonder why you didn't get say an Eric Cantu freeware model and team it up with a Kevin Sparkhul panel, ......a great but inexpensive NG panel that displays a GPS view in the ND and has superb side and wing views. Would have cost you about $9, I think. Not that I am presuming to tell you how to spend your money;)
August 22, 200520 yr why not just download the kittyhawk 737-700, it would fit your requirement and it's free
August 22, 200520 yr jennifer, there are several NG panels available in the library and other places...no shortages there
August 22, 200520 yr ---------------------------------------Does seem an expensive and wasteful way to go to achieve this.---------------------------------------Hee hee...yes I can see where you are coming from but actually even though Im not using the systems I feel to me it was worth it for the great visual model :) I really like it...its very well done. Another reason is that instead of searching for airline skins from all over the place I got a ton of them on the PMDG disk and they have tons more all for free on their website. So in like an hour I had a fleet of NG737s covering airlines from Brazil to Australia and every place in between! (Broadband is good)Back to the PMDG NG737...I enjoy crusing around doung shuttle flights while gazing out at my wing views and the strobe flashing away..good fun! My *only* grumble is that there is no wing-flex (like on the Posky 767-300). Im hoping PMDG will release an upgrade patch! And yes I have the Kittyhawk 737 too...I have the PMDG 737-600 & -700 but did not want to spend on the -800 (and so got the Kitty hawk -800 hee hee).Next on the list for me is the Flight 1 ATR! :)______________________________________________________LAdamson - yea thats what I do all the time! I have nothing but admiration for all the work that goes into creating realistic systems simulations for FS9 add-ons like PMDG, Flight 1 ATR, the freeware Project TU-154B, LDS 767 & numerous others. But systems are not my cup of tea and the reason I buy payware is because their renditions of the visual model are excellent. And I hasten to say...even though I dont *use* the PMDG systems the flight-deck is EYE-CANDY :)
