Double FPS in windowed mode?

Featured Replies

Going from full screen to windowed mode more than doubles my frames mid flight in the virtual cockpit. Is this just one of those FSX-isms? I can't stand windowed mode, but I have been having performance issues since reformatting my computer. Does anyone knows of a tweak that will enable me to get this performance in full screen? I've tweaked my CFG per the AVSIM guide.

If you're using the half refresh tweak in NI then your frames will be capped to half your refresh rate (30fps for a 60hz monitor for most of them) regardless of the fps setting in game or externally. Once out of full screen your frames will usually shoot up. I certainly find that the smoothness associated with the full screen half refresh tweak with a steady 30fps far surpasses the frame rate roller coaster you you get without it though.

There could be at least 3 things I can think of. 1) Vsync in windowed mode vs  full screen it is 2 different settings 2) You may have windows aero disabled or enabled. preferably it is enabled if you use DX10. Some have reported better performance with it on , some with it off. Try both.  3) You are using a different tool to view FPS other than the game. Specifically EVGA precision and some other tools the framerate will appear to double between windowed and non windowed mode...

I'll check my nvidia inspector settings. After reformatting, I've had nothing but performance issues. Where I once would lock at 30 frames while on the ground, I now only manage low to mid teens. The last couple of months has been very annoying. For what it's worth, I use the in game frame counter and run in DX9.

I'm currently planning a new build. I'm stuck between the 4790k or jumping on the Skylake bandwagon but regardless of what I choose, this hopefully won't be an issue much longer.
