November 2, 201510 yr Hi all, I have been running a powerful machine for my simming needs for a while, but now I am getting more into video production and editing (Premiere Pro and AE). I have a set of 8GB G.Skill 2400MHz CL9 ram at the moment, clocked at 2166MHz, but it doesn't seem to be enough for my video needs. If I would like to upgrade my RAM, what would you recommend and how much of it? The reason I am asking here is because I would like my selection of RAM to be compatible and efficient for my simming needs. And rest of my specs are: Asus ROG Maximus Gene V i5 3570K OC 4.9GHz NVidia GTX780 Ti superclocked HDD: 2TB WD Caviar Black SSD: 2x 512GB Samsung Evo (I think), 1x 1TB Samsung Evo Custom water loop (can't remember brand) Corsair Modular PSU 7/850W (can't remember exactly) Thanks in advance, Brendan Chen Learning to use and getting use to FSX!
November 2, 201510 yr Well you would want at least 16GB of ram maybe 32GB. Considering the video editing. As far as speed, I think the 2400 would be just fine as I dont think ivy bridge will overclock much more anyway, and for the price there is really no point. Remember its dual channel so look for a 16GB 2400 MHz (2x 8gig modules) Kit. You can always add another 16 later if your system is using all of it. Also thats a really high overclock, for gaming thats great but if you are doing work for clients you may want to drop that down to 4.7 as at 4.9 I'm sure she's giving you all she's got. (My 2600k would run FSX @ 5.1 but I settled on 4.8 for 24-7 use) Flight Simulator's - Prepar3d V5/MSFS | Operating System - WIN 11 | Main Board - GIGABYTE X870E Aorus Elite WIFI7 | CPU - AMD 9800X3D | RAM - CORSAIR 64GB 6600Mhz | Video Card - EVGA RTX3090 FTW3 Ultra | Monitor - DELL 38" Ultrawide | Case - CORSAIR 750D Full Tower | CPU Cooling - CORSAIR H170i Elite LCD 420mm Push/Pull | Power Supply - EVGA 1000 G+ | Sound System - Definitive Technology ProMonitor 600 w/subwoofer
November 16, 201510 yr Author That's some good advice there thanks for that. I held off the RAM for the time being until probably a bit later on, so will keep that in mind for future shopping. Brendan Chen Learning to use and getting use to FSX!
