Should I upgrade?

Featured Replies

I currently run an i7 3770K OCed to 4.5Ghz (runs solid) and a GTX 670 FTW

with 4 x 24" Dell wideview + 1 19" ELO touch screen.  Win 7 Home OS.

As long as I don't go nuts on weather (not too many clouds) it runs ok..I get close to 30FPS in some Islands somehwere.. and anywhere between 12-20FPS most other places.. it still is flyable in P3D V3.

I have 3 SSDs (1 1TB, 1 250GB and 2 x 100GB SSD) and too many HDs...

I've been looking at the latest CPU i7 6700K and the GTX 970.

I'd probably need no more than the CPU, MB, 8 GB Memory and the Video card and a cooler...and Win 7 OS. .totaling around $1000

IS it worthy it upgrading or should I skip this generation and do it after a year or two?

I saw someone post an OC of 5.2Ghz with the new 6700K...that got me salivating.

6700k at 5.2 is very rare. 4.6-4.8 is more like it. Expect 4.6 and if you are lucky and cooling is good, and the silicone lottery has done you some favours, you may nudge higher.

But ask yourself a question, what's the difference between 4.6 and 4.8 in terms of performance? Bugger all, a couple of frames if you're lucky.

Is it worth an upgrade from 3700k to 6700k... well I am because I have to build a new PC. And those that have jumped fron Ivy Bridge to Skylake are generally pleased.
