Repairing Scenery Problem

Featured Replies

I'm getting a CTD when I try to move my aircraft to the State of Florida. This started for some reason when I installed Free Flow Florida. I uninstalled it, but it would seem that there is something corrupted there. How can I restore the original scenery area without reinstalling the whole program and 10 billion add-ons?

Look for duplicate AFCADs.

I have exactly the same problem. I am also quite sure that once it worked. I checked for the duplicates but there aren't.The only thing that works is:- First go to an airport that is near Florida (I use "KSAV")- Then "Go to airport" that you wish (for example "Daytona Beach")Please, let me know if you find a better solution.Mario

Run Scan AFD and see what you find, as mentioned above duplicate Afcads will cause that. If that fails, go to the FS Freelow forum and postyour problem there. They will get back to you right away.

When you remove a scenery - you need to search your FS folder and delete all scenery.dat files. These are the temporary cache files used by FS. While FS is good at adding new data to these cache files - it does a very poor job of removing data. FS appears to scan for new files and add the new data - not scan all files and rebuild from scratch. So you can force that full rebuild by deleting the scenery.dat files. You do need to remove the files from all folders. The scenery.dat file the default folders can hold information about higher level scenery which replaces PART of the default files, etc.Make sure you only delete scenery.dat files. Some guage designers use .dat files for the gauges to work.

I essentially had the same problem that you describe. Scott promptly replied to my situation suggesting various file exclusions which did help to some degree, but did not completely fix my CTD problem with FFF. In all fairness to the FFF team, I had been experiencing CTD's where ever I flew, but not to the degree that I was experiencing with the Florida program. After checking all AFCAD's and duplicate textures, CTD's still existed, so I decided to do a complete re-install of FS9. All my addon files were on a 2nd HD, so this was not as daunting as it sounds, so copy & paste I went. When I was finished, I decided to take a test touring flight around and from KSAN. Got to the intersection of 28R and WHAM; CTD. Changed AC. No improvement. So I deduced that my CTD problem was coming from addon files on my backup HD. Not what I wanted to think about, but was now forced to do.I bit the bullet and started a COMPLETE re-install of FS9, one by one adding all the addon files that I had accumulated since the original install done in October of 2003. This was hundreds of files. To try and isolate the offending file that was causing my CTD's, for every file re-installed (not a copy & paste but a decompressing of Zipped files and a new installation) I took a test flight from KSAN to see if I could get past the intersection of 28R. File by file, I got and remained airborne, until I entered two similar but different environmental texture programs that we all know with files as "env.dawn, env.dusk, env moon, env.sun" etc. Files from these two programs were combined in the back up texture folder that was on my 2nd HD, so every time I copied & pasted that folder on a new install, I was bringing over the cause of my CTD's to my new install. I selected just one of those programs to use on this new install and I have been COMPLETELY free of CTD's for over two months now. The whole process took me about 26 hours to complete as for each file I re-entered, I did a test flight. BTW, Free Flow Florida is now also CTD free. Just my experience. Hope this info helps.
