December 31, 201510 yr I suppose that's one way of doing it but typically en-route is when I am getting my best FPS anyway so turning it off then seems like an odd strategy...at least for me. +1 I just do not see the point in turning it off when airborne, especially if monitoring ATC to reduce monotony. I fly in real time and flights average about 1.6 hours.
