Best First FMC/FMS Aircraft?

Featured Replies

Hmmm well I have the PMDG 737 (which I love dearly) and the 767. Bearing in mind STAR approaches never work in FS9 and the 767 only flies out of pretty big airports, I have never found the 767 AIO available from Navdata to be particularly limiting for Europe. Can't speak for the Pacific Rim of course, but then we get get back to:1) What kind of aircraft do you want to fly?2) Long Haul, short haul, how long have you got?3) Which airlines interest you, what type of planes do they fly, are there repaints available? For me, the PMDG 737 is terrific but there aren't many proper European airlines flying it. Yeah, yeah Ryanair isn't a proper airline (ducks for cover). The 767-300 is used by lots of airlines but only on medium/long haul. What we really need is a Level-D 757. I heard that was coming out shortly. Also, petrol is going to be much cheaper and taxes reduced.

Depending on what kind of flying you like to do ... the key to success with using an FMS is practice practice practice and a good tutorial or two.For medium haul:The PMDG 737-6/700 is perfect .. good tutorials and support, FMC is close to the Bulfer NG FMC "Bible" You can "graduate" into the -800/900 later on ... but the 600 and 700 are excellent to fly especially on shorter hopsThe PSS A320 is another good medium haul aircraft ... not a complete FMS but well done for it's time ... since it was not really a FS2004 aircraft ... I still fly a segment or two in the PSS busLago Maddog Md-80 ... if you're into Md-80's, despite the BAD press and complaints, the Maddog is a good way to goThe LDS-767 is "perfect" in my opinion ... can be used for Medium haul and short haul ...For Short haul (regional)The Feelthere ERJ is very well done, as is the FMS it has ... there is a good tutorialThe F1 ATR is also pretty awesone for a turbo if you like turbos ... the FMS is excellent, and there are excellent tutorialsThe new Majestic Dash 8 Q300 is also very excellent, although the FMS is not (STILL !!!!) fully implemented. But this is a fine piece of software, albeit it pricy ... especially if you like turbosFor Long haul,The PMDG 747 is awesome and I believe the "gold standard" complete package ... 99% of a PS1.3 for a sixth of the price. The PSS A330 and A340 are also well done for older software with the same FMC as the PSS A320's ... not 100% system modeling, but for airbus and FMC that's it.Now if only someone would publish a PMDG quality 777 really soon!!!! My most sincere recommendation for a "starter" is the PMDG 737-6/700 NG series as a great place to learn.Cheers and Good Luck on your search!!!Paul BenoitKSAN
