Buildings disappear then reappear at some default airports

Recommended Posts

Just started recently. Will be taxiing at an airport and from the virtual cockpit some buildings disappear then later reappear. Have only noticed this at default airports so far. If I switch to external views the buildings are always there. Only seems to affect views from the VC. I have all my Scenery Display sliders to the far right except Mesh Resolution, which I have set to 2M, and Water Effects set to 2.x Low.  Airplane model I have noticed this in is the RealAir TDv2.

Did you include your Scenery Complexity slider maxed out also?

Interesting shot for comparison.  What airport are you at?  I seem to remember an opposite effect

where sitting in the cockpit all buildings looked good, then going to external view and changing the

angle made them disappear.

Those particular shots are from KBMG - Monroe County Airport, Bloomington, Indiana.  But I had the same happen yesterday at KAPA Denver Centennial.  I only seem to be experiencing it at default airports.  And fooling around today I found that buildings also disappear when panning around in external views, but only at some viewing angles with the Milviz Baron B55, but does not happen with the same external views/panning with the RealAir Turbine Duke v2.  Strange!

I am using Megascenery in both areas. Ultrares Indianapolis over MSE2 Indiana (though I am not sure if KBMG is covered by Ultrares Indy), and Ultrares Denver over MSE2 Colorado. Wonder if those are affecting default scenery elements.

I flew into LatinVFR's payware KSNA - Orange County/JohnWayne, California and nothing was disappearing and reappearing.

I just tried KBMG from the same spot you tried in the default Baron.  All views were OK.  I suspect, as you do,  that

there is interference from the Megascenery packages.

It is happening mostly during taxi. Not when still.

Well, it has been well over two years since starting this topic and there was still no reasonable FSX scenery rendition to use for KBMG, Monroe County Airport, in Bloomington, Indiana, home of my alma mater Indiana University.  Turns out it was indeed an issue associated with use of photorealistic scenery with some default airports.  I sim fly in and out of KBMG constantly as I fantasy follow IU's great sports teams.  So about three weeks ago I took up the project myself, armed with an install of the SDK and ScruffyDucks's Airport Design Editor (SDE).  I had never attempted an airport scenery before.  (Screenshots below)

I learned during my hands-on  efforts that the issue is not specifically with FSX default airports, but instead the issue is with default scenery objects.  When I was in the early stages of this project I was using what I learned were default buildings and objects and they would also disappear in my scenery.  So I switched to buildings and objects from 3rd party libraries.  No more problem. It all stays in place!   I was eventually able to pare down the number of freeware objects libraries to two (2) that are widely available..

I uploaded the scenery last night and it is now available in the FSX Scenery library here on Avsim.   As explained in the readme file included with the scenery, it does require a pair of widely available freeware scenery object libraries, which are also here in the Avsim libraries.  There are links to them in the download page.

Compare to the two year old screen shots above to these and see what you think.
