need help with excbuilder

Featured Replies

Hi all, I downloaded and installed this program to create exclude files, when I try to run it I get a message "need msstdfmt.dll on your machine". I found the file..good old google..installed it where the readme said..windows/system..still get the sme message. Tried copying it to windows directory, fs9 directory and fs9 modules, still no luck. Anyone have any idea what's wrong? JamesJ

Surely someone knows something about this?..JamesJ

I'm not sure about that file / warning but ExcBuilder 2.0 by Paavo Pihelgas (which I assume is the program you are talking about) has some requirement. You need FSConnect to be able to take information directly from FS2004.Once you create the code - the program requires the MS FS2004 BGLComp SDK with the BGLComp.exe program to create the .BGL files.BGLComp requireds that you have MSXML 4.0 loaded on your computer. As a matter of habit, I never try to compile .BGL files directly from ExcBuilder but just use it to generate the XML code. Then I use BGLComp from a batch file to generate the exclude .BGLWhere multiple exclusion files are required at one place - I'll first test with all the small files - then combine all the code into one exclude file.Is that the program you were speaking about?

Thanks for the reply, Mr Fields, one of the sites offering this file for download says it requires Win 98. I have XP, so I guess I'm out of luck for now. Thanks anyway..JamesJ

Try excbuilderv2.zip in the Avsim library - and there are two good tutorial documents by David Marshall to help. The hardest thing to get straight with building excludes is that it has to be a rectangle with the NorthWest and SouthEast corners as the reference points. That North/South and East/West orientation makes some places very hard to do without a LOT of excludes. The next hard thing is that AutoGen scenery - trees, bushes and most buildings not on the airport polygon - can only be excluded by excluding ALL objects.

And ......Make sure you are facing North.Joe W.

Hi,If you get it running, here's how I use it:1. Go into Slew mode (Y)2. Go into Top Down view (Ctrl-S)3. Press the Space Bar to point true north.4. Slew to the upper left of your exclude area. Click the two buttons in the upper left of ExcBuilder5. Slew to the lower right of your exclude area. Click the two buttons in the lower left of ExcBuilder.6. Select to exclude Generic Buildings and Library Objects (for example), or select All Objects to get rid of the autogen trees and buildings. 7. Click the Generate XML button.8. Click the Generate Exclude File button. I give mine names that start with x (xklax_terminal.bgl).Move the resulting .bgl file from your ExcBuilder folder to your scenery's folder, or to the Addon Scenery/scenery folder, or any other active scenery folder.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___
