FSX and FS9 on the same machine?

Featured Replies

Hi, I have both FSX and FS9 co-existing happily on the same machine, and MCE is installed for FSX. Is there anyway to be able to install it to and use it with FS9 on the same box? I suspect not, but I'd be interested in a definitive answer. I don't believe it would breach the license terms since there would only be one instance in use at a time.

Cheers,

On the same machine you can use it with FS9, FSX, FSX-SE and Prepar3D.exe, and only a single installation is required.

When you start MCE, it will detect which sim is running and connect to it,it's as simple as that.

Brilliant. Don't I need to copy fsinsider.dll somewhere within \FS9??

You're right. If you installed FS9 after you ran installMCE, you need to un-install MCE via Windows Control panel, then re-run "installMCE".

Assuming FS9 record is found in registry, the MCE installer should automatically

1 - copy fsInsider to \Flight Simulator 9\Modules\ folder

2 - Copy <MCE dlls> folder to  \Flight Simulator 9\Modules\

Note, the <MCE dlls> folder for FS9 (about a dozen dlls in it) is different from the one for FSX/P3D (about 35 dlls).

If for some reason, the installer doesn't do that, or you want to avoid re-installing, you may copy and paste the files manually.

<MCE Dlls> folder is found inside \Files\ folder which you can see when unzipping the downloaded package.
