October 12, 200520 yr Well said Tony and I agree FE is not competing with BEVDifferent approaches to a similar problem. No right and wrong and yes they can be turned off so no problem from either side.BTW Tony,I'm glad to hear you are getting good feedback on your product. Welcome aboard to the payware developers and all the plus and minus you get with this.Great work and I can say my top beta testers Anthony and Spook both rave about BEV
October 12, 200520 yr Author By the way, I want to clarify my opinion. BEV has probably the best looking inland water. This is understandable since they are scenery developers so this naturally falls into their expertise area. FE's sea/oceanic waters are still probably the best. Michael J. Michael J.
October 12, 200520 yr Agreed Michael and the only thing I would add is that update 2 and 3 of FE does have an option to give a black inland water much like BEV but as many people that like the black inland don't like it.But yes I agree BEV inland water looks awesome. Great job. It's never going to be easy to make an ultimate water package that suits eveyone all the time in all conditions. The only major thing I don't like about black inland water is the way it contrasts too much when it meets the sea. And if you make the sea black then you get bright effects on the horizon. It's really frustrating making water work for all tastes. An impossible job.Personally, on balance for all the negative effects of darker inland water we get some really good plus points also. So for me most the time I like the dark inland water when deep inland and at lakes like near the Hoover Dam and a more grey inland water tends to work better near to the sea.Well made points Michael and thanks for clarifying
October 12, 200520 yr Thanks for the kind words, Peter. It has been interesting and educational. At the end of the day, this is supposed to be fun, right? ;)I'm looking forward to your update 3!Tony=http://www.flightsim-bevs.com]
October 12, 200520 yr There is no possible way for anyone to make the perfect water for FS but I can honestly say that you developers have done a great job! Every bit of water on this Earth is different, each lake, pond, river, stream and ocean is different so I guess each user has a different thought about what water should look like based on where they are from. Too bad FS will not allow us to customize each body of water to look like the real thing. In the mean time you guys, meaning Flight Environment, BEV and all of the other people that work so hard to improve our hobby do a great job at giving us options. That is what counts, options! I just got Flight Environment in the last month and I am amazed at how much it added to my FS experience, it is an awesome piece of work. I don't know how I lived without it. Looking at BEV's screenshots now I know that this is something that I will need to get as well, it looks great. Thank you to everyone that tries to make our hobby better, you do a great job.Take care, PhilipPhilip Olsonhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/supporter.jpg
October 12, 200520 yr Hello Peter-I have purchased Flight Environment and really think its a great product. However, I was wondering if it would be possible to make an almost black looking ocean texture? The one in the second update does not look dark enough to me. I would just like to see an option for it in the next update.:-) Thank you, Jason
October 12, 200520 yr Great, finally some harmony. Micheal, I certainly have nothing against you and I feel we both share the same enthousiasm for flight -full stop-;-). My blood often starts to boil when i see some posts getting ripped apart / flamed or even deleted and authors banned, just for speaking their mind. Peter has no need to protect me, although he's a close friend of mine, I can sort out my own problems. It's just he's protective nature, and you gotta love him for it! Anthony
October 12, 200520 yr Yes, I can make a black ocean texture but from higher altitude it will look horible as the distance base colours produce a really hard line. But yes I can do it easy and if you want it won't be a problem at all.I'll try and get a black version in update 3. Thanks for your suggestion.
October 13, 200520 yr Author >possible to make an almost black looking ocean texture?I would reconsider this request. Ocean waters are never "almost" black even when looking straight down. Perhaps it could be a very deep, saturated navy blue.Michael J. Michael J.
