I'm testing a fresh FSX install and have only the PMDG 747 installed and got this error 4 hours into a flight. Here is the log:

This may simply be the code being so old while being run on newer hardware/OSs.

I would say that something else happened and the crash simply brought down other processes and maybe affected the sound dll. Unlikely the fault is in the PMDG sound dll. Windows abstracts hardware and apps correctly written for Windows 95 sounds will work flawlessly on Windows 10.
