I left KSAN on route to KLAS, ATC wants me to check in  with KLAX and gave me the freq. I set the freq to KLAX. What is the correct phrase to let KLAX know that I am with them?

Was it Los Angeles Center they wanted you to contact? 

 

The proper check-in phrase would be "<CallSign> at Flight Level 210" or "<CallSign> climbing to Flight Level 310", depending on the situation. 

You can check the SayIt phrases or use the Grammar Help to get a working phrase for most situations.
