fsx-ms Would plugging in a second monitor on my video card affect?

Good Day,

 

Ive noticed there are 2 ports on my video card for 2 monitors(GTX 660) Ive always wondered if plugging in a second monitor would cut the cards performance by half?

 

Anyone have some insight on this?

Hi, two monitors for forward view looks weird because of the centre break but to answer your question;

the speed is mainly about processing resolution and 'windowing' has it's own problems so if you are effectively doubling video memory requirement with another monitor then there will be some hit if your processor/MB is not up to it. (Check with Windows Task Manager).

Using Nvidea 'SPAN' will give reasonable results but I suggest you look at their 'Surround' solution for best results.

 

Back to your question, if you use the second monitor for instruments (dragged from main screen) then this will have minimal impact due to the lowish resolution.

Personally, I have tried most methods and ended up with TripleHead2Go.

All I would use the second monitor for would be to have weather information, charts, performance charts things like that. I'm going to assume that this won't affect my performance too much.

Yes sir, using a second monitor for ancillary FS programs is certainly a major plus. I run a 55 inch 4k for my sim window, and two 23 inch LCDs for ancillary programs. I've been using three monitors for many years and couldn't possible go back to one monitor!

 

I'm not sure what system you have under you, but I'm running a i7-4770k with a GTX960, and with P3D (a little harder on the system than FSX) I get 138+fps on the 55 inch 4k with the default F-22 at Eglin AFB.  I've not bothered to max my frames out with the Aerosoft Airbus, Majestic Dash 8 Pro, or Leonardo Maddog, but my system doesn't break a sweat going to 40fps.

 

I also ran x3 23 inch monitors when I ran an i7-930 and later an i7-960 with an ATI graphics card, and I didn't have any performance problems whatsoever.
