How do you take a screen shot in P3d?

In the Settings, General page, Program section, you can set BMP, JPG, PNG or TIFF. Set JPG to save disk space but lose quality or PNG to save some space and keep original image.

For as long as I can remember I've captured images while in 'full screen' by pressing the 'Print Screen' key and pasting into 'Paint'. I usually save as JPG or carry out some manipulation or cropping prior to saving.

 

Of course, the problem with this method is you must follow through with pasting into Paint and saving the image immediately after capture or your previous image, which has been stored temporarily in the clipboard, will be overwritten by the next capture.

 

The 'V' method, I am assuming, allows multiple captures with automatic saving in one session.

Correct, you can press V hundred times in a row and hundred images will be saved without having to leave the sim. And even without a pause or stutter. In FSX (and previous versions) and for a long time also in P3D images were always saved as BMP, but since a while P3D offers the option to choose a format, as Steve explained.
