FS2004 Issues

Featured Replies

Does anyone else have this problem. I get frequent crashes when running FS9 ranging from CTD to out of memory messages and blue screen.I have installed the fs9.1 update and have the XP service pack 2.I thought that the problem was overheating but dont think that is my problem as i recently re installed FS2002 and it runs perfect with no issues at all.I have been running it for the past week doing 7-8 hr flights. Normally FS9 will crash after about 6 hrs running.but it can vary from anything from 15 mins.Dont think i have any hardware issues as the computer only crashes with fs2004. I recently changed my monitor as my old one just suddenly packed up and the crashes appear to be less frequent with the new monitor. Not sure if changing a monitor would affect the running of a program. wouldnt of thought so but im no expert.I have loads of add ons and freeware so maybe i should completely un install FS9 and re install from scratch.Anyone have any thoughts on this please. My system specs:AMD 3200 processor1GB RAMMaxtor 160GB Hard driveRealtec soundNividia FX5500 graphics card

These are often tough problems to diagnose. I, too, doubt that it's a hardware issue (but all mileage is variable). I'd uninstall all the add-ons, uninstall FS9 including all the saved settings, delete the main FS9 folder, defrag the drive, and then reinstall FS9 only. Fly with the default for a few days and see if the problem is still there. If not, reinstall the add-ons with a little testing in-between to see if the fault can be isolated. If the problem is still there with just the default FS9 installed I'd look at drivers first (video, sound, mobo chipset) and then check the memory modules.Doug

I really would go to power supply direction.I also have and had serious issues with blue screen and it always goes to power supply repairing

You seem to have a whole range of problems there. However, I had a spate of these things recently after months of faultless running.First, have look at your event log by right clicking on My Computer and then selecting Manage, Event Viewer and Application. Sort on Source and look for Flight Simulator. That will tell you when your problems started. Try un-installing anything you installed after that date. Also, check you Scenery and Add-on Scenery folders. Scenery files come in pairs of folders - Scenery and Texture. Make sure you don't have any empty Texture folders (i.e. no files in them). If you find any, delete them as I believe they can cause memory leakage which will eventually cause a CTD.You say you have lots of add-ons - does this include FSCrew? There is no problem with this program, but when they say load it from the default Cessna in a cold-and-dark condition THEY MEAN IT. I think a lot of my perceived problems were through not following this basic instruction.

Blue screen crashes are serious. I had a 6 month old system and it crashed with a blue screen earlier this year. I disregarded as I was still able to boot up my system and the blue screen crashes didn't occur every day. However, about a week later one of the hard drives on my RAID(0) config went bad and I lost everything. In other words, one of the hard drives was beginning to fail and I didn't detect it in time (it was a new system... how could a hard drive fail so soon?). If I were you I'd start backing up everything and immediately try finding the source of the crash. Blue screen crashes usually provide messages giving reasons for the crash. Write down the message and Google it. You've been warned....Jim
