What determines a/c registration numbering?

Featured Replies

I know that , for the default a/c, you can allocate a registration number to an a/c and the Sim "paints" the number on the side of the a/c.However, with repaints where the a/c has a number painted on the side, you cannot allocate it another number (and wouldn't want to) . However , what I want to do is to obtain repaints for payware a/c (that mostly seem to already have numbers included in the repaint) that don't have a number so that I can allocate numbers via the SimThe reason for this is that in http://www.fseconomy.com/ , you rent different a/c with different registration numbers .Barry

I think the ability to alter the registration numbers to show on the external model needs to be programmed into the aircraft itself, perhaps the model.cfg or mdl file. If the number is on the repaint textures there is really no way to change it without redoing the texture itself. You can change the number atc uses for any aircraft in FS but that number will not necessarily reflect on the exterior paint scheme.Bud

Hmm- I think that you might be right. Using a repaint of a payware a/c with a certain registration on the side of the a/c , you can indeed give the a/c a different reg number that ATC uses - but you can't see that number anywhere on the a/cI wonder if any repains are done which do not include reg numbers painted on the side.Barry

Some FS aircraft use the texture sheets to display the registration number on the model, others use the ID assigned within FS. For the latter, the object for the ID display is actually built into the visual model. For this type, changing the ID in FS will change the ID displayed on the aircraft, not so for those with the registration painted on the texture sheets. For those with the registration painted on, the ID in FS should theoretically match up with what is on the texture sheets, especially if you use ATC.If I understand your question, you are looking to create mutiple aicraft (with different registrations) from the same aircraft type, say the default 172. If you are looking to do this, you will need to add entries in the aircraft.cfg file for each aircraft with a different registration regardless of how the registration is applied to the visual model. I don't have fseconomy, but I suspect it scans the .cfg file entries and generates an aircraft listing for use with the program. Not sure if what I have offered here will help, but hope it does. :)

Hi,Airhead is correct. If the author didn't include the ability to display the FS reg number on the plane, then the only way to have a fleet with different reg numbers is to create multiple liveries within that plane's folder, and repaint the reg number for each livery. Add the reg number to the ui_variation line so you can pick the right one, add it to the title= line (so they are all unique), and make it the atc_id as well. That should take care of it.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

The problem I've seen with aircraft that get their ID from FS is that it seems to have to be black and in Arial font. The location of the tail number also has to be a seperately modeled polygon as well to which the texture is applied. This limits the effects you can do with the tail number.Correct about FS Economy. But it only scans a certain portions of the aircraft.cfg and the ATC Callsign and reg number aren't one of them.----------------------------------------------------------------John MorganReal World: KGEG, UND Aerospace Spokane Satillite, Private ASEL 141.2 hrs, 314 landings, 46 inst. apprs.Virtual: MSFS 2004"There is a feeling about an airport that no other piece of ground can have.
