December 10, 200520 yr Author Moderator Allcott,I was going to let this drop but now you're telling me I've posted inaccuracies and misunderstandings about FSUIPC. I've had FSUIPC installed ever since Pete Dowson released it. I do know what I'm talking about but clearly you have failed to grasp that.I'm going to quote your inaccuracies or misunderatandings and them I'm out of here.<>Pete Dowson has NEVER insisted what you say. I know him personally and I've often received beta versions of FSUIPC ahead of a general release and he has NEVER repeat NEVER stated that the default settings should be restored when installing a new version. That is pure fabrication on your part. It might be requested only when a person is having problems but never for users who are simply upgrading and who have no problems.Secondly, the INI is built up progressively as and when new features are provided by Pete. There is only one INI - not multiple versions as you suggest. So please don't say I'm posting inaccuracies when your own posts contain them. Ray (Cheshire, England). December 11, 200520 yr Hi Ray,Boy am I relieved to read your confirmation on this matter. A year or two ago I used to delete the ini file prior to each upgrade and then spent what seemed like ages setting everything up again. What a pain in the butt! In fact, it got to the stage when I stopped looking forward to each new release as it involved so much hassle. Ok, you could record your settings or keep a copy of the previous ini file and then cross check/modify with the new file as appropriate, but what a waste of time. Then somewhere I read all I needed to do was drop each new dll into the modules folder and keep the documentation up to date. That's precisely what I have done and have experienced absolutley no problems since :) Regards,Mike
December 11, 200520 yr Author Moderator Hi Mike,Thank you for confirming I'm not giving misleading advice. :-) I'm just sorry you had to go through so much hassle. And just for the record here's a bit from Pete's user guide...< Ray (Cheshire, England). December 11, 200520 yr OK, I'm beginning to think your misunderstanding is deliberate Ray. I have no idea why you want to pick a fight, but you pick it from a position that revolves around an inexcusable lack of understanding, especially given your tardy admission you're on the team.I did not say DELETE the FSUIPC.INI, I said to reset DEFAULT parameters in the FSUIPC module once FS is running.Re-setting FSUIPC is SOP as it is entirely possible tweaks in the .dll will have altered ratios, settings, menu options or the effectiveness of a particular setting. Pete has ALWAYS advised resetting to default parameters. If you know him so well why don't you just ask him and post his answer here? And another thing, as it's a payware product don't you think as beta tester you should:1: Reveal you have an interest in the package when posting in accordance with Avsim rules2: Do the beta testing properly Just because you have had FSUIPC for a long time, doesn't make you an expert. Clearly you're not up to date with the changes in the versions because by your admission you don't read the accompanying literature, so you miss out on some of the more advanced features introduced in recent versions, features which require manual editing of the .ini as there is no corresponding box or setting in the menu. For everyone else in conclusion. Dont take my word for it: READ THE ACCOMPANYING FSUIPC LITERATURE. Just find out for yourselves. One thing I do agree with Ray on. This conversation is over. Allcott
December 11, 200520 yr Author Moderator This is getting out of hand. Firstly as far as deleting FSUIPC.INI is concerned I was referring to Mike's post - not yours. Read his message! You say "Re-setting FSUIPC is SOP as it is entirely possible tweaks in the .dll will have altered ratios, settings, menu options or the effectiveness of a particular setting. Pete has ALWAYS advised resetting to default parameters."Please quote that from Pete's documentation. I've quoted from it in my reply to Mike and he clearly says it isn't necessary. You're trying to wind me up with inflammatory accusations but I will not rise to your bait. Ray (Cheshire, England). December 11, 200520 yr So you only read SOME of Pete's documentation Ray?"With FSUIPC.DLL correctly installed and registered, and Flight Simulator running and ready, go to the FSUIPC options. (You know how to do this now, as you had to go there to enter your registration details
December 11, 200520 yr Well first of all, I upgraded my FSUIPC registered version yesterday, and as everyone stated, it automatically was registered and all my settings were still there and all I did was dump the FSUIPC.dll file in the modules directory and start FS9. As to the .ini file ( which is not labeled .ini in my folder), here are the instructions in the read me file from the author...."That
December 11, 200520 yr Author Moderator Allcott,<>Clearly if someone is updating from an earlier version they DO NOT need to press 'Normal Defaults'. Can you not understand what you have quoted from?I've picked you up on two inaccuracies in your messages and you have failed to reply to either. You don't have the good grace to admit when you're wrong.<>I never said I was a beta tester of FSUIPC. I said I have received occasional test versions. That is not the same. Pete was working with the Radar Contact team of which I am a member and we were testing certain elements of FSUIPC in relation to that product. Pete does not have a beta team for FSUIPC. He releases to certain groups depending on the circumstances of the change.Clearly we can talk about this until the cows come home but I don't really see either of us changing our opinion so what's the point?
