December 9, 200520 yr Author Moderator Allcott,FSUIPC has never been available on AvSim. Pete Dowson has his files hosted by Enrico Schiratti (of Project Magenta fame) who has adequate bandwidth. If people want to ensure they have the latest version of FSUIPC, WideFS etc. they should visit Pete's support forum here for announcements http://forums.simflight.com/viewforum.php?...b24f4a01132dd7cCheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). As ever, the front page of Avsim carries the notification - and the link. My post was a `heads up` to knowing users. Users know where to get it it. The rest can find it if they want to look in the library here, or elsewhere. Allcott
December 10, 200520 yr Author Moderator Allcott,Those versions really shouldn't be there. Pete will only support current versions.<>No but you did infer they might be available on AvSim and the point I wanted to make is that they should only be downloaded from Pete's official page otherwise it's possible people will download an old version. It wasn't my intention to criticise - you posted useful info. :-)Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). December 10, 200520 yr If you have the registered version of FSUIPC, which I purchased a couple of weeks ago, and you install an updated version , do you have to re-register and do all your settings again in the new version, like yoke assignment buttons etc, or are they automatically copied to the new version? I actually downloaded the new one last night, but haven't installed it yet, since everything seems to be working fine and I don't want to have to reset everything........

I>actually downloaded the new one last night, but haven't>installed it yet, since everything seems to be working fine>and I don't want to have to reset everything........>>>Nope, Pete has thought of that. When you "install" the new version just don't change ANY of the files in the FSUIPC folders. Overwrite the main file and possibly the help file. Each new version I've installed I just open the zip and haul the main FSUIPC dll over to where it belongs, "et violets". :D
December 10, 200520 yr Author Moderator Bob,Only FSUIPC.DLL is replaced. Your settings are stored in FSUIPC.INI so providing you don't delete that you'll be fine updating.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). System: P3D v5.3HF2, Intel i9-13900K, MSI 4090 GAMING X TRIO 24G, Crucial T700 4Tb M.2 SSD, Asus ROG Maximus Z790 Hero, 32Gb Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000Mhz RAM, Win 11 Pro 64-bit, BenQ PD3200U 32” UHD monitor, Fulcrum One yoke, Fulcrum Throttle Quadrant. December 10, 200520 yr Sorry Ray, that isn't right.ALL the files that are in the download zip can be ported straight over to the Modules folder, but it is not just FSUIPC.dll that will be replaced. Any file you elect to replace can be replaced, but the important ones are FSUIPC.dll and the associated text files. YOu should always copy over the correct manual for the version of FSUIPC you are using! However, the bundling of FSUIPC with other peripheral files and apps means that you may have newer versions of several files to overwrite the current ones. But that will never include the FSUIPC.ini file or the registration. So this has to be the easiest thing to upgrade, ever. Unzip the new FSUIPC folder either to a temp directory and move the lot into the modules folder, or just unzip straight into the modules folder, overwriting as you go.The only other complication is that on first loading FS2004 after updating FSUIPC, it's a good idea to restore all the default settings then re-select your preferences. This ensures the FSUIPC.ini file is not in conflict with the version of FSUIPC.dll installed. Allcott
December 10, 200520 yr Author Moderator Hi Allcott,<>But the associated text files are not critical ones - they relate to a 'Can't see DLL' message and others relating to other programs - not FSUIPC. Most importantly there is no FSUIPC.INI so your own will never be overwritten. Yes, there are new versions of the manual in different formats but replacing or not replacing those won't impact on FSUIPC and your settings which is what the original question was all about.<>Really? I've never done that and I've never had any problems. Is it in Pete's documents as being necessary?Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). December 10, 200520 yr Yes, when changing between versions. It is certainly a standard `troubleshooting` method which Pete will insist on along with a log file in the event of problems - it eliminates the possibility of the .ini of one version conflicting with a later version - some things do change over time, as understanding increases or bugs are resolved. I have done this as my standard method since I first had FSUIPC and have NEVER had any problems going from version to version. But I must disagree with you on the manuals. NOT putting them in will have you reading old information or recommendations which may have become outdated as a result of the new FSUIPC.dll. Reading the manual is simply not an option with this software if you even want to begin to get thh best from it - remember there are functions in FSUIPC that can only be affected by direct alteration of the .ini file and are not listed in the onscreen menu. These are ALWAYS listed as part of the change log.Allcott
December 10, 200520 yr Author Moderator Hi Allcott,'will insist on' or 'has insisted on'? There's a big difference between those two. One is an assumption - the other a definite request. But I really don't want to continue this dialogue with all repect. I agree that if anyone is going to refer to the manuals they should of course have the latest versions installed. It all depends on how much you want to get from FSUIPC. Most people are happy to go with the defaults and consequently never need access the help.Cheers, Ray (Cheshire, England). December 10, 200520 yr It is of course your option not to continue the conversation. However, each of your posts has contained inaccuracies and misunderstandings about FSUIPC and I strongly suggest you take your own advice to read the manuals for yourself. You may just find solutions and options you didn't even know existed!Allcott
