Switching SSDs and moving P3D installation

Featured Replies

Currently have a 256GB SSD for solely my P3D installation.  I moved most of the scenery and AI off the SSD to save room including the extremely large Orbx folder.

But was thinking of upgrading to a larger SSD so i can have all the scenery and Orbx to take advantage of the bandwith in loading of scenery while in flight etc.

Can I simply move the installation from one SSD to another?  I think i read this isn't possible.

Could i rename the current SSD from D: to E:  then name the new SSD D: so the system thinks P3D is still on the same drive?

Yes, you should be able to do this with the Disk Management tool under Windows' Computer Management. You want to reassign the drive letters.

But take a backup of either of the disks before starting the drive letter reassignment!

Instead of directly moving the contents of the smaller SSD to the larger one I would first copy the stuff over and then delete it after the operation was successful.

Best and Good Luck
