  1. There's no need to delete the Tallinn scenery from your PC unless you think its installation is corrupt. Follow Frank's advice in post #9 above. Right, sorry if I did not state it explicitly: Please delete the Tallinn scenery entry from the Scenery Library using the control buttons (fifth button from the top) you have in the Scenery Library dialog. Then close the Scenery Library, and do what I suggested above. If there would be an issue with the actual installation of the scenery, e.g. it would be corrupt or the installation path would not exist anymore you would find out immediately when trying to re-add the scenery through this dialog. Personally, I like this approach more than touching the scenery.cfg file with a text editor; even if the Scenery Library Dialog is a pain to work with since the release of (I don't know) FS9 or even earlier? Renumbering the entries manually is quite error prone. But, I thought P3Dv3 would re-number the entries in an attempt to repair the scenery.cfg on its' own in the meantime, or am I wrong? Cheers Frank
  2. Hi Miguel, Looking at your second screenshot reveals what Elaine means. The Scenery Location for Tallinn is empty. I.e. the sim does not recognize in which Path it needs to look for the scenery. I suggest you locate the installation path of the scenery on your hard drive and edit the Tallinn entry respectively. Or you Delete it, click OK on the Scenery Library dialog, reopen the scenery library and manually add the Tallinn scenery again. This should do the trick. Best Regards Frank
  3. Hi, I just built a new system for P3Dv3 based on the Asus Z170-A, an i7-6700K and the Palit GTX 1070 Super Jetstream. No overclocking (except the higher clock rates the Super Jetstream comes with out of the box), since besides performance I am looking very much for silence too. At a display resolution of 1900x1200 with the CS 777 on the ground at fsdreamteams' PHNL I get framerates between 40 and 60 with highres textures enabled and detail settings at ~75% (no ground shadows), weather is provided by FSGW, cloud textures from REX TD w/soft clouds at 1024bit. I am more than happy with the build and the GTX 1070 - even if the case is open I do hear only a small whisper from the 1070s' fans and the performance is absolutely fantastic. For a new build I can absolutely recommend this card - if upgrading from a GTX 980 however, I would say it's a lot of money for the small performance gain. On the other hand, as others' stated, the new Pascal architecture is more future prove and much more energy efficient. Cheers Frank
  4. When I went from P3Dv2.1 to v2.5 I had to reinstall everything; when I went from 2.5 to 3.1 I had to reinstall everything ... each time it took more than a week because of life that goes in parallel  In autumn (hopefully) I will get new hardware (finally after 6 years ) and I am thinking, no puzzling would be the better term, over the best way to do the new setup since I took the decision to say goodbye to my old machine (and Win7) I like to tinker too, like Poppet says, but I hate to spend too much time with it, like Chas - it keeps me from what I really want to do with the Sim.... but the closer the summer break (and the inevitable autumn after) comes ... I am convinced that a clean reinstall of P3D and (selected) add-ons in principle is the best and most trouble free way to eventually make me sitting behind my controls again. I am getting a headache thinking of that reinstall debauch ... Cheers Frank
  5. Worse, David. If you did not backup all config files (scenery.cfg, dll.xml, etc.), i.e. all the stuff that normally is stored in C:\Users\yourname\AppData\Roaming\... and in C:\ProgramData\LockheedMartin\... , you will need to reinstall the add-ons anyway. Regards Frank
  6. You are frightening me, Justin. I wonder if mankind will be able to resist the addiction of a perfect simulation when actually our real world is so far away from being perfect ...
  7. This happened to me too - rarely and very infrequently, with an AMD card, on Windows 7, in P3Dv2 and v3. I could not link it to a specific scenario. Therefore I assume that it is a mixed bag of P3D and graphics drivers issues that surface just in the worst moment. I gave up on trying to analyze and report it. Cheers Frank
  8. I don't see Aerofly advertising sloped runways. Neither I can see something similar in their trailer or the pictures on their site. Could someone post pictures or a video, or point me to some if available, please? But, what I am really after is the world mesh in a resolution that (nearly) meets reality - so that everything we place on this mesh needs to obey its' shape. After all we speak of the next 10 to 15 years of flight sim...
  9. Real sloped runways is what I would like to see in future as a standard for all airports on a future simulation platform. I was sightseeing Hawaii yesterday, and seeing all the flat rectangle shaped airfields carved out of the mountainous Hawaiian landscape really spoiled the immersion.... Cheers Frank
  10. That's a Holodeck you're speaking of, Jeroen. It will not be done within the next two hundred years or so ... I' afraid. Cheers Frank
  11. I sometimes see the Aerosofts' Catalina on sale - again this time. Does anyone know if she is still working in P3Dv3.3 ? - I like the look of this Flying Boat very much and was tempted a couple of times, but was always able to control my moods. So, should I pick her up this time? Thanks and Cheers Frank
  12. You don't even need to do that, especially if you installed the original scenery to somewhere outside the FSX install folder...I share all of my addon sceneries, saving many GBytes Cheers Keith Yes, that's the beauty with P3Dv3.x. The feature of remote effect, sound, etc. folders saved me from a lot of duplicate addon installs. @Jack: read this post if you haven't done so already: http://www.avsim.com/topic/476713-prepar3d-v3-configuration-files-for-add-on-developers/ Do not worry about the batch file talk. It's the concept of the remote paths you can set in the different *.cfg files which may be of interest to you. Cheers Frank
  13. Brave decision Jeroen  I am a collector of some sort; I still own my set of floppy discs of X-Wing and System Shock. I never had the guts to throw these pearls away (and some other not-so-pearls too). I got them for hard earned money at the time, same for my FSX copy. They need to bury these media with me when the day comes Cheers Frank
  14. Hi Jack, I have not flown in FSX anymore since the release of P3Dv2. In the meantime I am on P3Dv3.3 and have not regretted it. However, I have kept my old FSX (and P3Dv2) installations in order to experiment with addons that are by definition not P3D compatible. This way I can install into FSX and move over to P3D whatever addon I like to try. The emphasis is on trying for my own purposes! If things turn out to be not working then there is no moaning and groaning, instead they get removed and that's it. That's why I found keeping FSX on my system to be very convenient. Cheers Frank
  15. Gregg, There is definitely a big difference between Medium and the higher two settings. Try it out. Water looks bland on Medium, it gets structure and animation on High and Ultra. But in order to see it you need to have Tessellation enabled. Best Frank
  16. Hi Neal, I have been on FS9, FSX and now on P3Dv3.2 since January. The latter was a real leap forward for me regarding visuals and performance - even on my geriatric machine (Core i7-870). As Josh stated, if you are happy to re-invest in certain addons do the jump - go directly to P3D. Cheers Frank
  17. It's definitely a good pick for the price. However, I think it's a bit lifeless - compared to their KDCA for example. I contrast you get a very good performance out of it. Cheers Frank
  18. Yes, I can confirm. It's running nice in v3.1. I cannot imagine it being different in v3.2. Cheers Frank
  19. Thank you for the screens in the other topic. They look nice indeed, especially the external model. I think I need to sleep on it - at least one night  Cheers Frank
  20. Hi, thanks for making us aware. Does she still stand the test of time? How is she with respect to internal/external visuals? How hard is she on resources? Looking at screenshots the VC looks rather 2D-ish. I thought I heard that system depth wise it would be a great package to go for. Thank you and Best Regards Frank
  21. Hi James, The tool will automatically do this for your. If you are unsure if this will brake something you can safe a profile beforehand running the tool and reapply it if you would be unhappy with the results. But usually the airport corrections done automatically are spot on. Best Regards Frank
  22. Aah, thank you for these nice shots. I was waiting a long time for this beautiful paint. Cheers Frank
  23. Love your mission (and the movie), great plots, each :-) Cheers Frank
  24. Oh, what a great thing to hear! Thank you for the update. It seems they even updated the Livery Manager. I thought it was on 1.7 beforehand. What a great service, need to thank them in their forums over there. Frank Edit: According to QW forum posts the Livery Manager is not updated, sorry if my enthusiasm created confusion
  25. Hi, Sales seem to be still on, that' why I'm posting. Yes, I have it up and running in P3Dv3.1 and no issues with night lighting or gauges. However I can confirm that the livery manager is not working in v3. There is probably more than one way to install it in v3. One of them is with the Estonian Migration Tool - but I never used it, so I cannot comment on it further. I have P3Dv2.5 installed in parallel to v3.1 - this made it easy for me. It involved a couple of manual steps beforehand I could run the installer. If you are not afraid of touching your registry it is relatively simple actually. You need to make the QW757 installer think it installs into P3Dv2 by changing the install path of P3Dv2 to point at the actual path of P3Dv3. But, please take care and export, i.e. backup the registry paths you are going to change to be able to restore your P3Dv2 installation if something went wrong. Cheers Frank
