December 15, 200520 yr it is that in some areas you suddenly get thrown aloft 500-1000ft? Yet you can place yourself on the surface while in slew mode. Very frustrating at times :(Mike
December 15, 200520 yr Make sure that you have crash detection ON in your aircraft realism settings. If it is on "ignore crash" landing in water will often result in what you describe.Dave
December 15, 200520 yr Ironically, before seaplane functionality was introduced in FS2K2, turning crash detection off was the only way to make a water landing.
December 15, 200520 yr Yes, except in FS98 (which had seaplanes). It was that way because FS2000 designated any contact with the ground outside a runway or taxiway at speeds higher than taxispeed a crash.
December 15, 200520 yr I think in FS9, if your landing technique is not correct ( like landing with a sideways drift due to a crosswind component, as I mentioned above), and you have crash detection on , you crash!! If you have it turned off, you bounce up in the air... So the problem , I believe, when you see this bounce, is that you really crashed and didn't realize it. Try it making sure you are landing directly into the wind, and see what happens. By the way, the real aircraft floatplane will also crash with sideways drift, when you touch down.
December 15, 200520 yr Moderator It's worth keeping in mind as well that not all water in FS9 is landable!" :) Fr. Bill AOPA Member: 07141481 AARP Member: 3209010556 Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
December 15, 200520 yr >Yes, except in FS98 (which had seaplanes). It did? I had FS98 and I could swear I had to disable crash detection.
December 15, 200520 yr You did have to disable crash detection in FS98 to not crash. The only seaplanes available came from this website right here, or a payware storebought batch of addons. :-)
December 15, 200520 yr Author Thanks everybody, that's the answer: I turned crash detection back on and all's well once again :)I had it turned off as I've been doing a lot of flying lately with my 2 and a half year old grandson. Waiting for the sim to reset itself to the default flight each time an a/c noses into the ground is a veritable pain in the arris and I find 2 and a half year olds have very little patience with such matters... in fact a bit like his 'Papa' in this instance :( lolCheers!Mike
