January 14, 20179 yr I had been on FSX, went exclusively to XPX/Linux for a couple of years, and now I have a couple of things I want to do that are only available on the FSX or P3D platform. My overall question is whether to upgrade from FSX to P3D. I run a higher-end machine, plain-jane Win7-64b and FSX/Accel, and the only add-on (at least initially) will be the airplane (Citation 550). Graphics is not a huge issue for me, as I will run in 720p resolution (big old TV). Is the improvement in function/functionality in P3D enough to justify the expenditure? The cost is less of an issue than the cost/benefit to the experience/stability. Minor nit...After the interface in XPX, I find the button-assigning functionality less than efficient in FSX. Can someone tell me if that has been improved in P3D? Would love to hear some informed thoughts! Thanks! Jim
January 15, 20179 yr Author Still haven't taken the time to master the Avsim search function (not sure why that's eluding me...c'est la vie) Google returned these which mostly answered the question, for anyone who has the need in the future. http://www.avsim.com/topic/493018-fsxse-p3d-or-x-plane/ "http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?258325-Differences-between-P3D-and-FSX%20"]http://www.flightsim.com/vbfs/showthread.php?258325-Differences-between-P3D-and-FSX%20 https://#####.wordpress.com/2015/03/12/maybe-its-time-to-finally-switch/"]https://#####.wordpress.com/2015/03/12/maybe-its-time-to-finally-switch/ http://www.avsim.com/topic/498378-p3d-34-v-xplane-11-pros-and-cons/%20%20 Sounds like P3D, while still not 64-bit, is still a significant improvement to FSX, stability-wise....just a relatively-uninformed opinion, of course. Jim Edit....and, duh, I should have realized they'd have a forum.... http://www.prepar3d.com/forum/

January 18, 20179 yr Author Thanks, gb! I bit the bullet and purchased P3Dv3. I understand now there really IS no comparison between the 2 programs....almost 15 years of progress between them is obvious. Only spent an hour or so looking around so far, but I do like the search capability when assigning buttons! Jim
