Another Build To Critique..Thanks!
The pieces/parts finally arrived and I put them all together over the weekend. What a machine! One of the things I do is run XPX on Linux. Just for a test, I took the h/d out of the old computer, and put it in the new one (it's cool you can do that with Linux, and it will adapt to the new hardware). It's like night and day. I went into settings and changed from bottom end default graphics set to 'extreme', It was like putting on an oxygen mask at 10K feet....the graphics literally pop. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the final choices of build components! Jim

Carenado T210 Panel Mod
Leen, I accept completely your condemnation. I agree that I have been completely remiss in not getting back here after posting the question. My only, and necessarily generic, defense is that 'life' intervened, and I just this minute saw your response. I hope you accept my sincerest apology and thanks for your efforts. Again, my sincerest apologies and thanks for your work. Jim I loaded it up, and the new pointer solves the problem completely. I am in awe that people with talents like Leen share their expertise willingly. Again, I thank you, sir!!! Jim

Carenado T210 Panel Mod
It was a toss-up whether to post here or under the Carenado forum (which seems mostly FSX)...If I chose incorrectly, mods please move. I recently purchased the Carenado T210 for X-Plane, and it's a nice airplane....like it a lot. The issue I have is with my instrument scan. It has a fancy digital/analog altimeter in the normal spot in the 6-pack. These old eyes can't see the little digital pointer, and the digital 'meter' is not a very precise way to hold altitude. This is important to me as I will use it to practice my instrument scan and procedures for RW flying. It also has what I'll call a 'normal' altimeter (two pointers and a kollsman window) at the lower left corner of the panel (apparently meant as a back-up indicator). Same size, etc, as the other one. I loaded up Plane-Maker and there's nothing in either the 2 or 3-D panels that are recognizable as instruments. Two-part question....does it violate copyright to switch these two instruments on my copy only....and even more importantly, if PlaneMaker won't do it, is there a way for a mere mortal (computer savvy, XP not so much) to make the change? Thanks! Jim

Another Build To Critique..Thanks!
Woohoo....just ordered what 'we' decided, folks! Can't wait for it to get here. Thanks again to all who provided input. In the mean time, I'm spending some time with my 'new' X-Plane version of Carenado's T210....awesome! Been comparing the versions between Win7 and Linux installs. Some peculiarities on Linux...like the virtual pilots are sitting in the virtual cockpit, interfering with POV, some of the non-std click-points don't work, and the C and O controls on the left side are MIA. Will play with this some more when the new pieces/parts are put together, and add the REP to it. Thanks again! Jim

Thanks, Martin! Excellent video. I think we have a winner for a build. Thanks to all and I'll report back when I get it together. Jim

Another Build To Critique..Thanks!
Linus and I BOTH had too much coffee today! Yeeha! Excellent information in both places..thank-you! [ Happy might be a bit strong :-) , but I think staying with the 970 sounds like a good plan for now...thank-you!! Just a random thought....when I need more video power (if ever), can one just double up on 970's?....yes, my newbieness is showing. Jim

Another Build To Critique..Thanks!
Thanks to each and all! I have swapped out the memory for... 6GB G.Skill DDR4 Trident Z 3000Mhz PC4-24000 CL15 (15-16-16-35) 1.35V Dual Channel Kit (2x8GB) and the cooler for..... NOCTUA NH-D15S (not my link, forum added it) Honestly don't know the difference between a single-rail and multi-rail PSU....will do my research...thanks! Would I gain a great deal by swapping for a 980ti? ($286 worth) Again, thanks! Jim Edit.....How does this look for a power supply......multi-rail, configurable to single-rail... Corsair RMi Series, RM850i, 850 Watt (850W), Fully Modular Power Supply, 80+ Gold Certified PS-I'm sure I'll be over-clocking...just haven't done it, so the concept is a bit foreign.

I'd just as soon not over-clock, but would like to be ready, if that changes. Is the Noctua ($89) overkill or under-kill? Depending on the answer.... Corsair Hydro Series H100i GTX High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler CW-9060021-WW? $110 Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO - CPU Cooler with 120mm PWM Fan (RR-212E-20PK-R2)? $26 I haven't used add-ons, but Old_As_Dirt is showing me the way toward changing that. :-) I would like to be ready for virtual reality with this rig when VR matures a bit.....will this PC be sufficient? (and yup...I recognize that to be a moving target) Thanks to all! Jim

Missing XPlane 10 182RG
Thanks, John! Have stayed away from add-ons till now...using a one-candlepower computer. Order for a new build should go out in a week or so. Jim PS- Went to the SimCoders site. It may be TOO realistic for my needs!! Imagine the performance of a Turbo 210 vs. my little non-turbo RG! :-) Amazing stuff!

Missing XPlane 10 182RG
That is, indeed, a beautiful bird! Will have to read up on REP...not familiar. One of the reasons I am delving into the X-world is Planemaker. A limitation I found in FSX with Carenado's 182RG was that when I tried to replace the DG with an HSI it had to fit inside the original 'hole' in the panel, which was round instead of square. No way to fix. Will I have that limitation with Carenado's birds in XP? Spent maybe 5 minutes in Planemaker so far :-) Thanks! Jim

Missing XPlane 10 182RG
Interesting thing.....they tell me over on the x-plane forums that there's never been one as a default.....and I believe them of course. Did a search and found a free 182RG download on the x-plane site that looks like the one I was (I think....senior moment, maybe?) playing with in the demo. Cue the TZ theme song music. Anyway, I downloaded that one into my licensed X-Plane 10, it looks the same. Given an hour of play, I like it as well as Carenado's on FSX...so far. More investigation coming of course. My goal is to match a Flight Sim 182RG panel to one I have access to in 'real life'. I came as close as I could in FSX, now working on Plan B. Jim

Missing XPlane 10 182RG
I downloaded and have been exploring the XPlane 10 demo for the last few weeks. as time permitted. I was convinced I need to purchase it so ordered the disks. They arrived today, so after deleting the demo, I installed the licensed version. When I got it up and running, I noticed that the 182RG that was included with the demo is not in the licensed package. I suspect, that had I not deleted the demo package before installing the new version, I could have just copied the RG a/c folder from the demo set-up to the licensed version. I'm just too efficient...aargh! :-) Is there another way to get this airplane without downloading the demo package and installing it again? I certainly don't want to violate copyright, but that particular airplane was pivotal in purchasing XP. Thoughts? Suggestions? Thanks! Jim

GTN650 For XPlane?
Thanks, Jimmy! That's a bummer! The XP TR182 is just what I'm looking for in everything else. Would be great if Flight1 decided to take a look at it! Jim

GTN650 For XPlane?
Is there a Garmin GTN650 GPS available on the XPlane sim platform?.....or is there any word that their might be at some point? Thinking of jumping from FSX to XPlane instead of P3D when I upgrade to a new computer. Thanks! Jim Edit- I should be more clear.. The TR182 included in the demo XPlane I downloaded looks great, but I would like to replace the GPS in it with a GTN650 when I purchase. I have done similar modifications to panels in FSX. My reading makes me believe it's capable of being done in XPlane also...yes?
