December 17, 200520 yr I can't change the altitude in FS9 flight plans. I edited a .PLN file in C:Documents and SettingsUserMy FoldersFlight Simulator Files with Notepad. Reopening the .PLN file showed the changes. However, when I loaded the plan into FS9 and looked at it in the Navigation Log the altitudes were not changed. Am I doing something wrong, or does FS9 recalculate the altitudes when it loads a flight plan?I did a search but couldn't find anything relating to this. Gerry Howard
December 17, 200520 yr You normally set the alt when you make the originalplan. Are you trying that? IE: when you make a plan, and then go to "plan route" or whatever it is called, you will see a default alt entered in the box. Often it is lower than what I really want. Justoverwrite that alt in the box with what you wantand save the plan. Should be workin if you do it that way. MK Mark Keith
December 17, 200520 yr I've done exactly what you have done and it works fine. Are you sure you are not pressing Find Route a second time?
December 17, 200520 yr I just load the edited flight plan then close that window and look at the Navigation Log. The en-route altitudes don't agree with those in the flight plan. I certainly haven't recalculated the route myself Gerry Howard
December 17, 200520 yr Using FS9.1 I created the flight plan from KCGX to KHUF that is used in the Learning Centre as an example. It's shown below pasted from Notepad:[flightplan]AppVersion=9.1.40901title=KCGX to KHUFdescription=KCGX, KHUFtype=VFRroutetype=1cruising_altitude=5500departure_id=KCGX, N041 Gerry Howard
December 17, 200520 yr I just edited a PLN file to change altitude from 5000 to 5200. It worked completely. So, this answers whether it should work. I have made tons of seemingly dumb mistakes to learn what I know about computers and Flight Sim....so I can ask this with authority and with no ill intentions.... -you did save the file, didn't you?The one I did was a stand alone flight plan, not a "SAved Flight". If yours was a saved flight, it may work diferently. I haven't tried that. Please reply here. I'd like to learn why yours didn't work. Thanks,Earl
December 18, 200520 yr i use the default planner all the time. EEEK!!! did i say that? after you save the plan, you have to load it. keep playing with it til you get a message asking if you want it to move your aircraft to the selected airport. once you get that message you're set to go. good luck. william
December 18, 200520 yr in other words, after you save it you have to click the load button and choose it from the list in the box. kind of redundant but it works fine. william
December 19, 200520 yr It's a saved flight plan. I can open it with Notepad to check it.The problem(?) as I see it is that FS seems to start the climb to cruise altitude (the only one that I can set) immediately after takeoff and sets appropriate altitudes. I'm trying to replicate a SID where there are altitude restrictions for some 50nm after takeoff. Gerry Howard
December 19, 200520 yr I've solved it (almost)!I set cruising altitude to zero and saved the .PLN file. This now almost gives the the correct altitude at waypoints - 3997 for 4000. However, when I reload the .PLN file, the cruising altitude is set to a non-zero value so I have to zero it and then save the file every time. Gerry Howard
