See if you can get a book called Stick and Rudder, they sell it on Amazon. com. Written years ago, but it is still the Bible of Flight for many, including me........http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/007036240...glance&n=283155
December 28, 200520 yr Congratulations!! Welcome to the fraternity of pilots, as Spidey's uncle said "with great power, comes great responsiblity", stay in the books and have fun.
December 28, 200520 yr Congrats.Don't know how great the aviation school at SIUC is but the area down there is wonderful. I was there for a couple of years and I just loved the atmosphere there. Its like the college is its own enity were it does not feel like you are walking in a city for your class. I'm not for sure but I think they use the airport in Marion for their flights. Had a friend when I was there flying out of there so I think that is it. Not for sure tho. You need to fire up FS and get your practice going ;)

December 28, 200520 yr Congrats about your news Adam. Isn't it just a nice Christmas present?Well, I wish you the best of luck, and welcome to the worldwide community of real pilots. Just wait until you really start flying. If you havn't piloted an aircraft before, it is a feeling I just can't describe. It's a feeling of absolute freedom, only better. And them comes your first solo... :-wedge I still remember the day I went solo the first time. It is a moment in life that you will NEVER forget. I felt **** scared, but dead excited as well. It was wiered not having the instructor sitting next to you.Anyway, good luck mate, and may your dreams of flying now come true.
December 28, 200520 yr Author I remember mine fondly too, including the quip from the Southwest 737 holding short, waiting for me to make my first solo touch-n-go. It was a slow morning so tower and the southwest jet were bantering.Tower: "Southwest ####, hold short runway 3 for cherokee on final. He's on his first solo landing."Southwest ####: "For his first landing, that was sure a greaser."I wish I could say the next two were greased on, but I think I got over confident and the next too were a bit bumpy. Hehe.As for the scared part, I spent probably a good 10 minutes mulling over whether to cranking the engine or not. Hehe. The private pilot checkride and the 250nm solo cross-country I remember with even more fondness. The fog that rushed in during the pattern on the chekride, and the mile jog with flight bag slung over my shoulder to find something to eat on the 250nm x-c and get back of the ground again within an hour. :-lol----------------------------------------------------------------John MorganReal World: KGEG, UND Aerospace Spokane Satillite, Private ASEL 141.2 hrs, 314 landings, 46 inst. apprs.Virtual: MSFS 2004"There is a feeling about an airport that no other piece of ground can have.
