January 2, 200620 yr Hello all and Happy New Year,Now that the DF727 update is out, I was wondering if anyone can comment on the smoothness of the gauges in the VC? I noticed a post by Paul discussing low res. gauges, are the gauges somewhat fluid in the VC? Specifically the ADI & HSI? I am not expecting super fluid gagues, but I hope that we have something in the middle....Thank you in advance for any info you can pass on... John
January 2, 200620 yr On my mildly equipped PC (Athlon 3400+, Radeon 9800 Pro) I don't use VCs because I find the gauge update rate far from being usable, no matter what heavy I take (have almost all payware and all top freeware). Maybe different for GA.Same for the 727 - I stay with 2D.P.S.: To my knowledge, Reality XPs Flight Line T are the only fluent analog gauges for FS. That said, all other analog gauges are _not_ fluid in 2D mode! Add to that the "stutter effect" of VCs, and you easily see that the gauges which aren't fluid at all in 2D are even much more stuttering in the VC.It's a riddle for me how someone can "fly" a heavy in a VC with all that stuttering...Andreas Andreas, LOWW - Nihil sumus et fuimus mortales. January 2, 200620 yr I fly almost everything from the VC and the guages for the DF727 are pretty normal in smoothness for a VC. About the same as the LDS for me.Andreas: It might be your video card that is the problem. You have a pretty powerful CPU (one step down from mine a 3500+) but your vid card is quite old. That might be your main problem.
January 2, 200620 yr They probably update about 4 times a second. I tend not to use the VC in IFR conditions that much, because I wind up chasing the needles (and I have a fairly weak system anyhow). The VC framerate is actually quite good--I can easily get 20 fps in the VC if traffic and clouds aren't too heavy--but gauge smoothness is not just a function of framerate, it's also a function of how many "VCockpit" sections there are in the panel file (among other things).I'd say they are about even with the LDS 767, that's a fair appraisal.Lewis "Moose" GregoryRichmond, Virginia Lewis "Moose" Gregory Durham, North Carolina
January 3, 200620 yr I fly almost exclusively with the VC. However, there's something about this plane which makes flying in the 2D cockpit much more enjoyable. The clarity, panel lights, views, etc. I rarely fly the DF 727 from the VC oddly enough. Maybe the 2D and views reminds me of the DF 737. And of course no problem with gauge fluidity from the 2D cockpit.
January 3, 200620 yr Author Agree with the all of the comments. The 2-D view is amazing and of course, will suffer none of the penalty that flying in the VC will. The framerates are equal in both but the refresh rate in the VC is about the same as those in the LDS. As stated, the number of VC sections in the panel.cfg probably has a lot to do with the slow update of the gauges. Jim Karnhttp://www.precisionmanuals.com/images/forum/pmdg_pf.jpg
