March 14, 20179 yr Like many people I have problems with FSX:SE. The program doesn't start up, even after a reinstallation. I followed the Avsim CDT guide, but my problem stays. When I start FSX:SE I get the message : "Generating scenery files", the second message : "building database scenery". Then nothing happens. Could you help me ? I'm running Win10 64 bit. March 14, 20179 yr Commercial Member Uncheck addons in the steam menu. Right click on the FSX menu item in the steam menu and choose properties, local files, verify integrity. Without addons try starting FSX. If problem continues, in Explorer go to: "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX\" (or C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX-SE if you have both installed), rename Scenery.CFG to Scenery.CFG.sav - something like that, again try starting FSX. Reselect addons in the steam menu and try again to start FSX. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
March 15, 20179 yr Author Steve, Thank you for your advice. I have done everthing you've adviced me but the problem stays. Maybe I have to reinstall FSX;SE ? Wilfried RAES Wilfried EBBT (Intel Core i7-7700 CPU @ 360GHZ, 16 GB RAM, NVDIA GeForce GTX 1070 and Win10 64 bit)
March 15, 20179 yr Try deleting/rebuilding your facilities/scenery indexes and shader folders (see page 24, AVSIM CTD Guide)(link to guide in my signature). Whenever FSX-SE fails to start, immediately suspect the dll.xml as it is the first thing loaded when you first start up FSX-SE and, if it fails, there is a problem there. If it is not the dll.xml, then it must be a scenery loading as Steve rightly suspected. Remember, there is no exact solution to your problem. We can give you suggestions to fix it as above but only you can truly investigate what went wrong by using the guidance on Page 10, AVSIM CTD Guide - How to Fix Most CTD's/Freezes. It is one of those three files that is loading that is causing you an issue. If you have a dll.xml (and I do not see where anything loaded that would require you to have a dll.xml), it loads modules required by some developers to run their programs properly. So, if it is not the fsx.cfg or the scenery.cfg, then you will need to reinstall FSX-SE and make sure you do not install it in the default folder - C:\Programs Files (x86) as you did with your current installation. Try installing it in C:\FSX-SE. What I don't understand is why is it generating scenery files and building database scenery all of the time when you just have a default install of FSX. Perhaps you had UserAccessControls and your anti-virus program enabled when you installed fsx. Best regards, Jim Jim Young | AVSIM Online! - Simming's Premier Resource! March 15, 20179 yr Commercial Member With Steam FSX we get write access to the program folders in C:\Programs Files (x86) as the Users group has Modify permission with FSX:SE so no need to relocate it, also it starts as Admin so acquires access rights to C:\Programs Files (x86) anyway. What is does do differently to FSX Boxed is the Scenery config location is protected but should still remain accessible to FSX:SE as it is started as Admin. What can be tried is to set access to the users group for that folder: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\FSX, we right-click on it in Explorer and choose 'Properties', 'Security' tab, 'Edit' choose 'Users' group check 'Modify', OK, OK. There's a slim possibility something can't write to the Scenery config but it's slim. Otherwise it might be a good idea to just remove and install again, be sure to remove all aspects of FSX otherwise the FSX:SE install can go wrong very easily. Before installing uncheck all the addons in the steam FSX:SE section (if you have any) so that it performs an FSX:SE stock instllation.. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
March 17, 20179 yr Author Hey Jim and Steve, I have tried everything you have suggested and written on page 10 of the CTD guide. I have 2 scenery.cfg files : 1. c:\program data\microsoft\fsx\scenery.cfg -> this file is created when FSX:SE is launched. 2.c:\program files (x86)\steam\steamapps\common\FSX\scenery.cfg -> this file can't be deleted When I check the compatibility of fsx.exe (properties - compatibilty - run compatibility problemsolver) I get the message that fsx.exe is not compatibel. Maybe I can try to install FSX:SE on the D:\ partition. Strange things; RAES Wilfried EBBT (Intel Core i7-7700 CPU @ 360GHZ, 16 GB RAM, NVDIA GeForce GTX 1070 and Win10 64 bit)
March 17, 20179 yr Commercial Member Beware that if we change compatibility of installation programs that may make them go wrong after attempting to install them and even may be unable to work in future on that system without cleaning the compatibility settings. FSX Boxed and Steam are compatible with all versions of Windows since WinXP. The compatibility settings should never be used unless the application demands it in its documentation especially apps that work across WinXP, Vista, Win7, 8 and 10. Changing compatibility can confuse the installer and the app as to which version of Windows it is actually operating in. Steve Waite: Engineer at codelegend.com
March 19, 20179 yr Author I have reinstalled FSX:SE with the administrator account. When the game with this account everything works fine. When I run FSX:SE with my own account (which has also administration rights) the problem stays. At the end problem solved for a great deal. December 26, 20196 yr Install the freeware or payware version of FSUIPC. The FSX version has the ability to trap the G3D.dll error. Otherwise there is absolutely no other fix.
