Ground Texture Issues

Recommended Posts

Hey all,

Every once in awhile I see these weird glitches with ground textures. Yesterday was the worst one I've seen to date while landing at KMCI. I'm using Steve's presets on the DX10 fixer. Add-on's include ORBX Global FTX, PMDG 737NGX, GSX, FS2Crew, Ultimate Traffic Live, and Active Sky 2016. Is what I'm seeing a DX10 issue or should I search elsewhere?

Thanks!

Those are scenery spikes which can occur in FSX when the GPU is overloaded (both DX9 and DX10)

They are actually a corruption of the vertex buffers rather than the textures.

There also used to be a specific Dx10 issue which caused this when running FSX in Dx10 preview mode with AMD GPUs but last year AMD fixed their drivers and the problem went away.  If you have an AMD card make sure you have an up to date driver, otherwise its probably just a load issue.  Check temperatures and power to the card and if that isn't the issue you may have to reduce the sliders a little.

If you google fsx scenery spikes you will find other examples  (including references to the DX10 AMD driver issue)

Also check that you have the Highmem setting set in fsx.cfg if using the DVD version of FSX (not the steam version)

Ahh those pics bring back memories. Just throw out a few possibles. Running to much "stuff". You listed some of the largest most system killing programs out there.  Just PMDG,Orbyx and UT will strangle most sytems. Need to list your system details. Usually though when I saw your issue it was the card is underpowered, running hot, computer needs a good dusting and has been overclocked.
