July 10, 20178 yr When reacting to ATC speed restrictions in the climb, is it preferable to input the target speed on the VNAV climb page or use MCP speed intervention? I find it hard to edit the FMC quickly since you have to enter an altitude as well as the speed you wish to climb. So I'm wondering if speed intervention would be better. Any advice on the pros and cons of each method? Andrew Farmer My flight sim blog: Fly, Farmer, Fly!

Is the restriction simply a restriction "until further notice" or "maintain XXX until [specific fix]?" MCP for the former. FMC for the latter (rarer). Kyle Rodgers
July 10, 20178 yr Author Temporary restriction for spacing, so MCP SPD is probably easier, then back to VNAV when instructed to resume normal speed. Thanks for the advice! Andrew Farmer My flight sim blog: Fly, Farmer, Fly!

Thanks for the advice! No need to change modes. Just click the middle of the speed wheel. That puts you into SPD INTV, leaving you in VNAV. Once the restriction is cancelled, click the middle of the speed wheel and it drops you right back into VNAV. Kyle Rodgers
