October 18, 20178 yr A couple of questions about Pilot2ATC and VFR flight following...... Once established with flight following, and in route to the destination, will the controller in Pilot2ATC hand you off to approach or tower, or are you expected to cancel flight following and contact them yourself? Distance wise, when should either of those things happen? I've tried a couple of VFR flight following flights(KPVD KMVY), and was expecting a handoff as I approached within 20-30 miles of the destination airport, but didn't hear anything. So I canceled flight following and contacted the tower. As far as the program is concerned, what is the correct sequence of events for a VFR flight following flight? Thanks.

Otherwise, ATC should cancel your IFR and give you "....frequency change approved" so you can contact CTAF at the Destination airport. If you don't, then cancelling IFR with Center and contacting tower should work fine. You could also try "... request frequency change to Tower at Kilo Papa Victor Delta" (or whatever the phonetic of the airport code is).
