March 29, 200620 yr Just purchased and installed FS2004. What a difference from the older versions that I had (FS98 and 5.1 on cd).Still getting the feel for all the new features that have been incorporated into the newer software, and it's been a blast so far!!Over the years, I've collected quite a bit of add-on scenery and planes. What I am wondering is if any of them are usable with FS9. I have the MS scenery pack for the 98 version, and Hawaii, Britain, and the Carib. addons for 5.1 by Mallard. The planes are mostly from the old FS forum that was on Compuserve! Loved flying a P38 that was available. Is any of this stuff usable, or are those scenery areas already included in the new database of FS9 ?Thanks for the info !Rob - af8o
March 29, 200620 yr I strongly doubt that you can use any of those addons with FS9. Either way, there is plenty of new scenery available, payware and freeware, for FS9 that is absolutely stunning. If you think FS9 looks good stock, you'll be amazed at how it looks with some of the scenery addons available! Also, some MUST HAVES:ActiveSky 6 from HiFi (http://www.hifisim.com/)RealAir SF.260 &RealAir Spitfire (www.realairsimulations.com)Carenado Aircraft (www.carenado.com)James
March 29, 200620 yr Author You might as well file your FS98 files in your obsolete file...I doubt they will work...I have had a hard enough time getting 2002 files to work correctly in 2004...Cheers,Scott
April 4, 200620 yr James and Scott,Thanks for the response. Sorry this replay is so late work kept me in the field and away from home a bit longer than I expected.I'll have to try those links just to see whats available out there.I was checking the doc's that are in the new SDK for 2004, and they did mention that it should be possible to import scenery from the 98 disks. But I'd rather take some one's word that has already tried it.Thanks for the warning, Scott!Really I was not too concerned about using the buildings, textures .... but more for the airports, ndb's, vor's, ils's...Still trying to read the sdk doc's, but it seems that I can edit the database for those items and add them in. From some of the areas I did some exploring, like around the Bahamas, Key West, and West Indies, the airports, beacons and radios are all ready included. Probably the same around Olympia, WA, another area I like.Still using the old charts from FS98 and 5.1 as a reference. One thing I don't like about the new software is there is no longer a printed manual included. Have to read everything off the CD or hunt down a published users guide book :(Time to do a little more exploring this week in the FS world! Thanks again for the help. :-beerchugRob
April 5, 200620 yr Don't worry about adding the navaids from FS98 Rob. Everything there is included in FS9 with a WHOLE lot more. When you get some time to browse around looking for things I'd suggest going through the library here at ASVSIM and then check this site: http://www.tony.smiths.btinternet.co.uk/fsgate1.html . That'll keep you busy for a while :-) .
